#11 Oilers Come Up Short at Dayton

One day after defeating Wright State University, the #11 Oilers gave the University of Dayton all they could handle before eventually suffering a 96-87 loss on Saturday, Nov. 2 at UD Arena.

A total of 36 fouls were called in the first half as the Oilers trailed the Flyers by a score of 53-51 at the break.  Both teams had a hot hand in the opening period as the Oilers shot 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from the floor while Dayton connected on 63.6 percent (14-of-22) of their tries.

In the second half the Oilers had a difficult time putting the ball in the hole and their foul trouble caught up with them as Flyers methodically increased their lead as the period progressed.  Still, the Oilers found themselves down only six points at 89-83 with 1:42 to play in the game.

Findlay would get no closer than six points of Dayton the rest of the way as the Flyers closed out the game at the free throw line to secure the victory.

Senior forward Greg Kahlig poured in a game-high 30 points on 9-of-14 shooting.  He also connected on 12-of-13 attempts from the free throw line and 4-of-7 shots from the behind the three point line to go along with six boards.

Sophomore guard Dylan Kaufman added 25 points, hitting 7-of-14 shot attempts.  He also made all eight of his free throw attempts and connected on 3-of-8 attempts from long range.

Junior forward Jake Heagen chipped in eight points while sophomore guard Alphonso Baity had seven.

The Flyers were led by Vee Sanford's 22 points.

The Oilers shot 47.7 percent (21-of-44) from the field and hit 36-of-44 (81.8%) of their tries from the free throw line.

The Flyers meanwhile hit 59.1 percent (26-of-44) of their field goal attempts and made 40-of-52 (76.9%) shot attempts from the charity stripe.

The Oilers will open their regular season on Nov. 9 against Marygrove College.  The game is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
