Kahlig Named GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year

GLIAC Men's Basketball Preview

The University of Findlay men's basketball team is picked as the favorite to win the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division this season as the league office unveiled their preseason poll on Nov. 7.

The Oilers, who are ranked 11th in the nation, received a league-high 24 first place votes and a total of 192 votes in the poll to while senior forward Greg Kahlig was picked as the Preseason GLIAC Player of the Year.

Findlay finished last season with a 22-8 record and won their second straight GLIAC Tournament championship.  They qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament, but were upended in the first round by Drury University, who eventually won the national championship.  The Oilers also finished the season ranked 22nd in the nation.

Kahlig was a first team all-conference and all-region player last year for the Oilers after averaging 17.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.  The Ft. Recovery, Ohio native is a 2013-14 preseason All-American and ranks 36th all-time at Findlay with 1,141 career points.

Joining Kahlig on the preseason first team all-conference squad is junior forward Jake Heagen, a two-year starter for Findlay.

Heagen averaged 8.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the Oilers last year as a sophomore.

The Oilers open their season on Nov. 9 at home against Marygrove College.  The game is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
