Men's Basketball Inks 3 During Early Signing Period

The University of Findlay men's basketball program inked Elijah Kahlig, Nick Ruthsatz and Taren Sullivan during the early signing period on Nov. 13.

"All three of these players will be great fits in our program and at The University of Findlay," said head coach Charlie Ernst.  "We wanted to address our shooting and our size with this class.  All three of these players shoot the ball well and we are planning on signing a big guy later in the recruiting process."

Kahlig, the younger brother of current Oiler Greg Kahlig, has been named first team all-Midwest Athletic Conference for Ft. Recovery High School in each of the past two seasons.  The 6'3, 180-pound guard is coached by Brian Patch and was voted honorable mention all-Ohio last year as a junior after averaging over 20 points per game.

"Elijah is very competitive and an outstanding shooter," said Brian Patch.  "He has shot high percentages from the field during his time here while facing a triangle and two defense the past two seasons and I expect him to have a great career at Findlay.  He also doesn't want to be compared to his brother, he wants to be better than him."

Ruthsatz, a 5'9, 165-pound guard from Covington Catholic High School in Kentucky, has been named all-Kentucky in each of the past two years.  He is coached by his father, Scott Ruthsatz, and averaged 19 points per game last year.  He has also been named first team all-region twice while racking up over 1,200 career points in his career.

"Nick is one of the hardest working players I have ever coached," said Scott Ruthsatz.  "He is aggressive, tough and a great competitor.  Findlay is the perfect place for him to continue his academic and athletic career."

Sullivan, a 6'6, 190-pound forward from Lima Bath High School, was named first team all-Western Buckeye League last year as a junior.  An all-Ohio pick who is coached by Doug Davis, Sullivan averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists per game last season for Bath.

"Taren is a very talented player in all phases of basketball," said Doug Davis.  "He has great perimeter skills and has really improved his post play so he can take advantage of his size against smaller defenders.  I do not believe he has played his best basketball yet and I am confident he will continue to get better and better."
