Men's Basketball to Battle Ashland/Lake Erie
The University of Findlay men's basketball team will be on the road this week to face Ashland University and Lake Erie College. The Oilers will play the Eagles on Thursday (7:30 p.m.) before taking on the Storm this Saturday (3 p.m.).

Series Information
The Oilers hold a 60-27 advantage in the all-time series against Ashland dating back to the 1910-11 campaign when Findlay won 35-10.
The Oilers defeated the Eagles by a score of 85-48 on Jan. 23 in Croy Gymnasium behind a record-setting performance by Greg Kahlig. Kahlig scored a season-high 34 points in the win and tied school records by going 9-of-13 from behind the three point stripe.
The Oilers hold a 16-0 advantage in the all-time series dating back to the 1988-89 campaign when Findlay was victorious by a score of 84-51.
Findlay came away with a 74-49 win over Lake Erie on Jan. 25 in Croy Gymnasium as they held the Storm to a 29.8 percent (17-of-57) shooting clip. They received 21 points, five assists and four rebounds from Greg Kahlig while Dylan Kaufman had 15 points, three rebounds and three steals.
Jake Heagen recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Findlay
In a game that featured ten lead changes, the Oilers men's basketball team found a way to grind out a 71-64 win over Tiffin University on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Croy Gymnasium.
Findlay shot only 39.3 percent (22-of-56) from the floor, but did convert 8-of-19 (42.1%) three point attempts in the game. They also made 86.4 percent (19-of-22) of their free throw attempts and forced 15 turnovers.
Greg Kahlig led the way with 24 points. Limited in the first half due to foul trouble, Kahlig scored 22 points in the second half as he finished the game by connecting on 7-of-12 shot attempts.
Jake Heagen also reached double figures with 15 points to go along with six rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Dylan Kaufman registered six points and seven rebounds while fellow Alphonso Baity had five points, five rebounds and five assists.
Mark Frilling played well for the Oilers in the paint, scoring four points to go along with seven rebounds while Tyler Stern-Tucker provided a lift in the first half with six points and two boards in only five minutes of work.

The Eagles are 9-12 on the season with a 6-11 record in conference play. Will Evans leads the team with averages of 14.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
Wendell Davis is scoring 10.8 points per game while Brook Turson is chipping in 10.6 points per contest.

The Storm are 9-14 on the year with a 6-11 record in GLIAC play. Riley Thomas leads the team at 19.5 points per game while Garrick Sims is contributing 12.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest.

An Elite Program
The Oilers have the second best winning percentage in NCAA Division II competition since the year 2000, having won 349 games and lost only 77 for an overall winning percentage of .819. During that timeframe, the Oilers reached the Elite 8 in 2005, appeared in the Sweet 16 in 2008 and won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2009 with a perfect 36-0 record.
1,000-Point Club
Senior forward Greg Kahlig is ranked tenth all-time at Findlay with 1,609 career points. He is chasing Marc Bishop (1996-99) for ninth place on the all-time scoring list as Bishop registered 1,658 points during his tenure with the Oilers.
Kahlig scored a season-high 34 points in the Oilers 85-48 win against Ashland on Jan. 23. He also put up 32 points in the Oilers 86-73 win over Michigan Tech on Dec. 12 and scored 30 in an 81-76 loss to Grand Valley State on Jan. 4.
The Ft. Recovery, Ohio native posted a career-high 38 points in an 83-67 win over Walsh on Feb. 21, 2013 and has six 30-point games to his credit during his tenure with the program.
Getting Buckets
Senior forward Greg Kahlig is averaging 22.3 points per game this season, the third best total in the GLIAC and the 12th highest mark in the nation.
The Oilers have not had any player average over 20 points per game in a season since Greg Denecker put up 20.3 points per contest during the 1993-94 campaign.
As a team the Oilers are averaging 82.6 points per game, the second best mark in the conference.
They put up a season-high 114 points in a win over Notre Dame (Ohio) on Dec. 21 in Croy Gymnasium. The point total was the most scored by a Findlay team since they defeated St. Mary's (Mich.) by a score of 120-70 on Dec. 15, 2001.
Defense Wins Championships
The Oilers are holding their opponents to a 40.3 percent shooting clip, the best mark in the league and the 21st best percentage in the nation. They are also defending the three point line well and rank fifth in the conference by limiting their opponents to a 33.9 percent shooting clip from long range.
In addition, the Oilers are only giving up 68.5 points per game to their opponents, the sixth best mark in the league.
Triple Your Pleasure
The Oilers are hitting 39.5 percent of their three point tries this season, the third best mark in the conference. Individually, sophomore guard Alphonso Baity leads the team with a 47.2 percent shooting clip from long range while junior forward Jake Heagen is connecting on 41.0 percent of his long distance tries.
Senior forward Greg Kahlig and sophomore guard Dylan Kaufman are also hitting a high percentage of their three point tries this season and have made 39.8 and 37.8 percent of their attempts, respectively.
The Oilers are also making 8.3 three pointers per contest, the fifth best total in the GLIAC. Senior forward Greg Kahlig leads the team and ranks seventh in the conference with 2.5 made triples per contest.
Kahlig tied a school record with nine three pointers in the Oilers 85-48 win over Ashland on Jan. 23.
Pounding the Boards
The Oilers are averaging 37.8 rebounds per game this season, the third best total in the GLIAC. They are led by junior forward Jake Heagen, who ranks sixth in the GLIAC with 6.8 rebounds per contest.
Heagen has recorded three double-doubles so far this season. He had 13 points and 12 rebounds in a 96-68 win at Cedarville on Nov. 14 and recorded 20 points and 11 boards during the Oilers 86-69 loss at Northwood on Dec. 7. The New Concord, Ohio native also posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds in Findlay's 74-49 win against Lake Erie on Jan. 25 in Croy Gymnasium.
Swatting Shots
Findlay is blocking 4.7 shots per game, the third best total in the GLIAC. They have been blocking shots by committee and have five players averaging more than 0.5 blocks per contest.
Sharing the Rock
The Oilers are averaging 15.9 assists per game this year, the third best mark in the GLIAC. Senior forward Greg Kahlig leads the team with 3.3 assists per game while sophomore guard Alphonso Baity is contributing 3.2 dimes per contest.
Grand Theft
Sophomore guard Dylan Kaufman ranks third in the GLIAC in steals per game, recording 1.9 per game. As a team, the Oilers are ranked fourth in the conference with 7.2 steals per contest.
Getting to the Line
Senior forward Greg Kahlig is making 5.8 free throws per game on the season, the fourth best total in the GLIAC. He is also ranked second in the league in free throws attempted per game at 7.2.
For his career, Kahlig has made 401 free throws, the fifth-highest amount in the program since the 1986 campaign.
As a team, The Oilers have made 365 free throws this season, averaging 17.4 points per game from the charity stripe. Because of their ability to get to the foul line, the Oilers are making 6.7 more free throws per game than their opponents.
Staying Out of Foul Trouble
The Oilers are doing a good job of not fouling this season and are leading the GLIAC with only 14.8 personal fouls per contest. The mark is also the sixth highest in the nation.
Putting the Ball in the Hole
The Oilers are shooting 48.3 percent from the field this season, the fourth best shooting clip in the GLIAC. Sophomore forward John Staley leads the team with a 70.6 percent shooting clip this year.
As a team, the Oilers have ten players shooting over 47 percent from the field on the season.
Shooting into the Record Book
Senior forward Greg Kahlig hit nine three pointers en route to 34 points in the Oilers 85-48 win over Ashland University on Jan. 23 in Croy Gymnasium. The nine triples made by Kahlig enabled him to tie the school record for most made three pointers in a game. He now shares the record with current assistant coach Dustin Pfeifer, who hit nine three pointers against Hillsdale College on Feb. 28, 2006.
His 13 three point attempts also tied the school record as he now shares the top spot with Chris Ireland and Marc Bishop. Ireland fired up his 13 attempts against Shawnee State on Dec. 2, 1995 while Bishop set his mark against Tiffin on Dec. 1, 1998.
A Tough Place to Play
The Oilers are 554-113 (.831) in Croy Gymnasium since they starting playing home games there during the 1969-70 season. The number is even better in the past ten years as the Oilers have posted a staggering 164-5 record at home for an incredible winning percentage of .970.
Dominating GLIAC Home Games
The Oilers have won 95 of their last 97 regular season conference games at home. They fell 57-55 to Tiffin University on Jan. 12, 2013 and lost 81-61 to Walsh University on Jan. 30, 2014. Before that game, their last loss came in 70-68 fashion against Gannon University on February 12, 2004.
Handling Non-Conference Foes
The Oilers have posted a 69-3 record (.958) against non-conference opponents in games played at Croy Gymnasium during the past ten years. Their last loss at home to a non-conference team came against #1 West Liberty State by a score of 90-74 on Nov. 14, 2012.
Racking up the Victories
The Oilers have been playing basketball since the 1902-03 campaign and have amassed a 1,460-863-2 (.628) record since their initial season of competition.
Kahlig Named GLIAC Player of the Week
Senior forward Greg Kahlg has been named the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week three times this season.
Kahlig first earned the honor on Nov. 20 for his performances in the Oilers first three games of the 2013-14 season. Kahlig averaged 21.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in wins over Marygrove, Cedarville and Wheeling Jesuit.
He earned the honor again on Jan. 27 for his efforts in a pair of wins over Ashland and Lake Erie. Kahlig averaged 27.5 points, 5.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game in the two wins.
The Ft. Recovery, Ohio native collected the award on Feb. 10 after averaging 26.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in wins over Ohio Dominican and Tiffin.
The 20-Win Plateau
The Oilers have achieved 20 wins in each of the past 12 years. The last time they failed to reach the 20-win plateau came during the 2000-01 campaign when they went 19-11.
100-Point Plateau
The Oilers have scored over 100 points twice this season. They put up 105 points in a win over Marygrove on Nov. 9 and also posted 114 points in a victory against Notre Dame (Ohio) on Dec. 21.
The Oilers have scored over 100 points 177 times during the history of their program and sport a 171-6 (.966) record in those games.
Conference Championships
The Oilers have won 11 GLIAC South Division titles in their 16-year affiliation with the conference and have also won seven conference tournaments, capturing titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. Their seven tournament titles are the most in GLIAC history.
In the last 12 years, the Oilers have won ten GLIAC South Division titles. Overall, Findlay has won GLIAC South Division titles in 1998, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013.
GLIAC Tournament Success
The Oilers sport a 28-6 record in the GLIAC Tournament, winning titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. Findlay has appeared in the championship game of the event nine times in the past 11 years. They reached the finals in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013.
The Oilers have captured seven GLIAC Tournament titles, the most in league history. Their win in the 2013 tournament gave them two in a row away from the friendly confines of Croy Gymnasium, the first time a school has ever won back-to-back championships on the road in the history of the GLIAC Tournament.
Advantage Findlay
The Oilers have never lost a GLIAC Tournament game at home. Since 2002-03, the Oilers have a 19-0 record in GLIAC Tournament games within the friendly confines of Croy Gymnasium.
Dancing
The Oilers have appeared in 11 out of the last 12 NCAA Division II National Tournaments and have recorded a 16-10 record in those games. The team reached the Elite 8 for the first time in school history during the 2004-05 campaign and advanced to the Sweet 16 during the 2007-08 season. They then used that success to win a NCAA Division II National Championship during the 2008-09 campaign, finishing the year with a perfect 36-0 record. Their 36 wins as an undefeated national champion are the most in the history of NCAA Division II men's basketball.
Preseason GLIAC Player of the Year
Senior forward Greg Kahlig was voted the favorite to win the player of the year award in the GLIAC for the 2013-14 season. Kahlig was a first team all-conference and first team all-region performer for the Oilers last season when he averaged 17.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
Preseason Favorites
The Oilers were picked as the preseason favorite to win the GLIAC South Division as they received a league-best 24 first place votes in the annual poll.

Senior forward Greg Kahlig and junior forward Jake Heagen were each named first team all-conference in the preseason.
Preseason All-American
Senior forward Greg Kahlig was picked as a preseason All-American by NCAA Division II Bulletin after being named first team all-region and first team all-conference last year for the Oilers.
