Kahlig Lifts Oilers to Win at #22 Walsh with 42 Points
The University of Findlay men's basketball team came from behind to beat #22 Walsh University by a score of 82-81 on Thursday, Feb. 20 in Canton, Ohio.
Down by nine points at 76-67, sophomore guard Alphonso Baity nailed a jumper with 2:26 to play in the game. Senior forward Greg Kahlig then swished a three pointer to cut the Cavalier lead to four at 76-72 with only 1:54 showing on the clock.
After three-point play by Chall Montgomery, Baity went to the line for the Oilers and drilled two free throws to make the score 79-74 with only 1:15 to play. Kahlig then came through for the Oilers again as he converted a three-point play and drained a triple in between a score by Walsh to make the deficit only one point at 81-80.
Trailing by one point with only 23 seconds to go, Baity committed a foul, but the Cavaliers missed the ensuing free throw attempt. Junior forward Jake Heagen then cleared the glass for the defensive rebound. The Oilers then began to wind down the clock and Kahlig canned a jumper with only three ticks left to give Findlay a hard fought road victory.
Kahlig was once again unbelievable for the Oilers as he posted 42 points in the victory, his second straight 40-point game.
The Ft. Recovery, Ohio native hit 18-of-27 shot attempts, made 5-of-11 three point tries and also came away with three boards and two assists.
Baity had 14 points and seven boards while sophomore guard Dylan Kaufman added ten points and six boards.
Heagen had another complete game for Findlay with seven points, seven rebounds and three assists.
The Oilers shot 54.4 percent (31-of-57) from the floor and made 10-of-21 (47.6%) shot attempts from behind the three point line. The Cavaliers meanwhile hit 55.2 percent (32-of-58) of their field goal attempts and connected on 10-of-22 (45.5%) attempts from long range.
Jeff Copeland led Walsh with 17 points while Brad Dupont had 15 points and ten rebounds.
The Oilers will return home to host Malone University on Saturday in a "Black Out" game at Croy Gymnasium. Come to the game, which starts at 3 p.m., dressed in black.
