Oilers Beat Hillsdale, Will Host Remainder of Tournament

The University of Findlay men's basketball team claimed a 67-47 win over Hillsdale College in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals on March 5 in Croy Gymnasium.  With their win over the Chargers and the loss by top-seeded Lake Superior State University, the Oilers will now host the semifinals and finals of the tournament on March 8-9.

The Oilers jumped out to a 35-20 lead at the break and cruised through the second half of the game for the win, which gives them a 22-5 record on the season.

Findlay's defense disrupted the Charger offense all evening as they held Hillsdale to a mere 33.3 percent (15-of-45) shooting clip. The Oilers also held a 40-30 advantage on the boards and forced 14 turnovers in the game.

The Oilers, who shot 42.9 percent (27-of-63) from the floor, were led by sophomore guard Alphonso Baity and senior forward Greg Kahlig.

Baity torched the Chargers for 18 points, four rebounds and three assists while Kahlig registered 16 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Junior forward Jake Heagen stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals while sophomore forward John Staley played great off the bench and produced a season-high nine points on 4-of-4 shooting.

Freshman forward Tyler Stern-Tucker added six points and four rebounds off the bench while senior forward Mark Frilling had five points, nine rebounds and three steals in the victory.

The Oilers will now face Walsh University in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals on Saturday in Croy Gymnasium.   The game will tip at 1 pm.
