Rockets Top Oilers in Exhibition Contest

The 16th-ranked Oilers men's basketball team fell behind early against the University of Toledo and could never catch up as they fell 101-72 in an exhibition game on Nov. 8 in Savage Arena.

The Rockets used their size and athleticism to their advantage as they held a 45-23 advantage on the boards and also outscored the Oilers by a 46-32 margin in the paint. Toledo also hit 51.5 percent (35-of-68) of their shot attempts while Findlay converted 43.6 percent (24-of-55) of their field goal attempts, hitting only 4-of-22 (18.2%) tries from three point range.

Sophomore center Quaran Jones led the Oilers with 15 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the floor. He also hit all seven of his free throw attempts and added two rebounds in the game.

Junior forward John Staley, junior guard Dylan Kaufman and senior forward Jake Heagen each posted nine points apiece while sophomore forward Tyler Stern-Tucker had seven points and four assists. Heagen also added six points, three rebounds and a steal in 31 minutes of action.

Sophomore guard Ricardo Smith and freshman guard Nick Ruthsatz each scored six points while freshman guard Elijah Kahlig chipped in five.

The Rockets received 21 points from Nathan Boothe and got 20 points from Jonathan Williams. J.D. Weatherspoon recorded a double-double, scoring 19 points to go along with 12 rebounds.

The Oilers will open up regular season play on Nov. 18 against Cedarville University. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
