Oilers Cruise to Win over Knights, Heagen Reaches 1,000

The University of Findlay men's basketball team evened their record at 4-4 on the season with an 85-50 win over St. Andrews University on Dec. 19 in Croy Gymnasium.

The Oilers built a 46-19 lead at the break and then cruised through the second half en route to their second straight victory. They shot 50 percent (36-of-72) from the floor in the win and held a 44-24 advantage on the boards.  They also dished out a season-high 23 assists and came away with eight steals in the game.

Sophomore center Quaran Jones led the team with a career-high 15 points and 13 rebounds while junior forward John Staley was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field for 14 points.

Senior forward Jake Heagen netted 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting to become the Oilers 43rd member of the 1,000-point club. His triple with 6:26 remaining in the game gave him an even 1,000 points for his career.

Freshman guard Elijah Kahlig also reached double digits in the win, scoring 11 points to go along with five rebounds.

Freshman forward Taren Sullivan had a great all-around game for Findlay off the bench with eight points, seven rebounds and five assists while sophomore forward Tyler Stern-Tucker produced eight points and four rebounds.

The Knights, who shot 40.8 percent (20-of-49) from the floor, were led by Titus Gary's 17 points.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Jan. 2 when they host Ferris State University. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
