Oilers Face Ashland/Lake Erie this Week

The Oilers will hit the road to battle Ashland (1/22) and Lake Erie (1/24) this week. The Ashland game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m. and the game against Lake Erie will begin at 3 p.m.

Center Court with Charlie Ernst

Don't forget to tune into 88.3 FM "WLFC" for Center Court with Charlie Ernst.  The radio show will be broadcast live from Fricker's on Monday evenings during the season.  The show will be aired live from 6-6:30 p.m.  Fans are encouraged to attend the show so they can listen live over the sound system and enjoy the great food Fricker's has to offer.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 61-27 advantage in the all-time series against Ashland dating back to the 1910-11 campaign when Findlay won 35-10.

The Oilers defeated the Eagles twice last season. They won 85-48 at home and 69-55 on the road.

In the Oilers home win over the Eagles, Greg Kahlig drained nine triples en route to a game-high 34 points. He also added six assists in the win.

The Oilers shot 58.3 percent (28-of-48) from the floor and hit 14-of-27 (51.9%) shot attempts from behind the three point line.  Their defense also limited the Eagles to a mere 30.8 percent (16-of-52) shooting clip in the game.

In Findlay's road win, the Oilers shot 47.7 percent (21-of-44) from the floor and forced the Eagles into 20 turnovers.

Jake Heagen scored 18 points while Kahlig recorded 17.

The Oilers hold a 17-0 advantage in the all-time series dating back to the 1988-89 campaign when Findlay was victorious by a score of 84-51.

Findlay posted two victories against Lake Erie last season, winning 74-49 at home and 79-69 on the road.

In the home win, the Oilers held the Storm to a mere 29.8 percent (17-of-57) shooting clip and were led by Greg Kahlig's 21 points, five assists and four rebounds. Dylan Kaufman also played well with 15 points while Jake Heagen posted 11 points and 12 boards.

In the road win, Kahlig torched the Storm for 40 points on 11-of-16 shooting.

Heagen played a great game for the Oilers as well, scoring 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Findlay

The Oilers cruised to an 85-54 win over Tiffin University on Jan. 17 in Croy Gymnasium. The win gavethe Oilers a 7-7 record on the season with a 4-6 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers jumped out to a 42-13 lead at the break and never looked back. They shot 55.6 percent (30-of-54) from the floor and canned a season-high 13-of-25 (52%) of their three point tries in the game. They also held a 41-29 advantage on the boards and dished out 19 assists.

Elijah Kahlig led the way with a career-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting. He also connected on a career-high 6-of-8 attempts from behind the three point line and added four rebounds in the win.

Jake Heagen recorded 16 points, five rebounds and three steals while Dylan Kaufman came up with 16 points off the bench for Findlay.

Tyler Stern-Tucker also reached double figures with ten points to go along with six rebounds.

The Oilers two-headed point guard attack of Ricardo Smith and Nick Ruthsatz only combined for seven points, but together they dished out 15 assists. Ruthsatz registered a career-high eight assists to go along with five points and five rebounds while Smith had seven assists to go along with five rebounds and two points.

Ashland

The Eagles are leading the South Division of the GLIAC with an 11-5 record, which includes a 5-5 mark in conference play. They have been led by Wendell Davis, who is averaging 16.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

Marsalis Hamilton is scoring 8.1 points while Brook Turson and Cole Krizancic are both scoring 7.9 points per game on the year.

Lake Erie

The Storm are 5-9 on the season with a 2-8 record in GLIAC play. They have been led by Jamil Dudley, who is scoring 12.9 points per contest.

Andy Bosley and Nick Wells are also averaging in double figures on the season at 12.8 and 10.2 points per game, respectively.

1,000-Point Plateau

Senior forward Jake Heagen became the Oilers 43rd member of the 1,000-point club with 14 points in the Oilers 85-50 win over St. Andrews on Dec. 19. Heagen has now scored 1,093 points in his career and is chasing Tyson McGlaughlin for 37th place on the all-time scoring list at Findlay. McGlaughlin recorded 1,134 career points from 2002-05.

Making Shots

Junior forward John Staley is leading the GLIAC in field goal shooting percentage as he is connecting on 66.3 percent of his attempts this year. As a team, the Oilers are ranked fifth in the conference with a 46.7 percent shooting clip.

Stroking 3's

The Oilers are hitting 38.4 percent of their three point tires this season, the second best mark in the conference. Individually, freshman guard Elijah Kahlig is ranked eighth in the conference with a 44.1 percent shooting clip from long range.
