Walsh Tops Oilers 76-69

The University of Findlay men's basketball team fell 76-69 to Walsh University on Jan. 29 in Croy Gymnasium. The loss gives the Oilers an 8-9 record on the season with a 5-8 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers fell behind by a score of 37-29 at the half, but battled back to take a 64-63 lead with 3:44 remaining in the game. Walsh's Jesse Hardin then scored eight straight points to give the Cavaliers a 72-66 lead with 1:07 to play.

Down six, senior forward Jake Heagen converted a three-point play to make the score 72-69 with only 53 ticks left. That was as close as the Oilers would get in the final minute of the game though as the Cavaliers closed out the contest by making four free throws for the final margin.

The Oilers, who shot 44.6 percent (25-of-56) from the floor, were led by junior forward John Staley and his 15 points. Staley hit 7-of-8 shot attempts in the game and also added four rebounds.

Junior guard Dylan Kaufman, senior forward Jake Heagen and freshman guard Nick Ruthsatz each scored 13 points apiece for the Oilers as well.

The Cavaliers hit 57.1 percent (28-of-49) of their shot attempts and were led by Jesse Hardin's game-high 29 points and eight rebounds.

The Oilers will be back at home on Saturday to host Malone University. The game is scheduled to tip at 3 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
