Late Run Keys Oilers 62-50 Win Over Malone

The University of Findlay men's basketball team scratched and clawed their way to a 62-50 win over Malone University on Jan. 31 in Croy Gymnasium. The win gives the Oilers a 9-9 record on the season with a 6-8 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers shot 42.9 percent (21-of-49) from the floor and canned 50 percent (7-of-14) of their three point tries. They also held a 37-33 edge on the boards and out-scored the Pioneers by a 12-1 margin in the final three minutes of the game.

Senior forward Jake Heagen led the way with 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals. He hit 5-of-7 shot attempts and connected on 3-of-4 tries from three point range.

Junior forward John Staley and sophomore guard Ricardo Smith each scored eight points apiece while freshman guard Elijah Kahlig had seven.

Freshman forward Taren Sullivan had a great game for the Oilers off the bench as well, scoring four points to go along with a career-high ten rebounds.

The Pioneers, who shot only 32 percent (16-of-50) from the floor, received ten points from both Mitch Spotleson and Ben Haraway in the game.

The Oilers will take a day off and then travel to Detroit, Mich. for a 7:30 p.m. contest against Wayne State University on Feb. 2.
