Oilers Earn 5th Straight Win, 89-78 over Ashland

The University of Findlay men's basketball team captured an 89-78 win over Ashland University on Feb. 12 in Croy Gymnasium to earn a share of first place in the South Division of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers, who are now 13-9 on the season with a 10-8 record in conference play, shot 55.6 percent (30-of-54) from the floor and canned 10-of-19 (52.6%) attempts from behind the three point line. They also got to the line 28 times, making 19 of those attempts (67.9%), and ended the game with only four turnovers.

Senior forward Jake Heagen led the way with a season-high 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting. He canned 4-of-6 attempts from three point range and also added five rebounds and two assists in the win.

Sophomore forward Tyler Stern-Tucker came off the bench to provide 15 points and five rebounds while junior guard Dylan Kaufman had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore guard Ricardo Smith stuffed the stat sheet with ten points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block while freshman guard Elijah Kahlig and freshman forward Taren Sullivan rounded out the other Findlay players in double figures with ten points apiece.

The Eagles were led by Wendell Davis and his 25 points.

The Oilers, who have now won five in a row, will now prepare to host Lake Erie College on Saturday at 3pm in Croy Gymnasium.
