Oilers Come Up Short at SVSU

The University of Findlay men's basketball team saw their season come to a close in University Center, Mich. on March 4 as they lost 69-62 to Saginaw Valley State University in the first round of the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament.

The Cardinals opened up a 39-26 lead at the half and then held off some furious rallies by the Oilers in the second half to advance in the tournament. Saginaw Valley State did so on the strength of hitting a blistering 55.6 percent (25-of-45) from the floor. The Oilers meanwhile hit 45.5 percent (25-of-55) of their shot attempts and recorded a season-high 14 steals in the game.

Senior forward Jake Heagen tied his career-high with 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting. He also added five rebounds, four rebounds and two assists. The New Concord, Ohio native ends his career with 1,307 points, the 24th best total in school history.

Freshman forward Taren Sullivan also reached double figures with ten points to go along with four assists, three rebounds and three steals while sophomore guard Ricardo Smith had seven points, two rebounds and two steals.

The Cardinals were led by Garrett Hall's 17 points.
