Oilers Drop Opener 88-80 to S. Indiana

The University of Findlay men's basketball team began their season with an 88-80 loss against Southern Indiana on Nov. 13 at the D2 Vegas Showdown in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Oilers pulled out to a 50-38 lead at the half, but were unable to hold onto the lead as the Screaming Eagles connected on 67.9 percent (19-of-28) of their field goal attempts in the second half to out-score Findlay by a 50-30 margin in the deciding period.

Southern Indiana ended up shooting 57.9 percent (33-of-57) of their shot attempts while the Oilers hit 45.1 percent (32-of-71) of their field goal opportunities. Southern Indiana also went to the line 24 times in the game while the Oilers only attempted nine free throws.

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough led the Oilers with 14 points while junior forward Tyler Stern-Tucker scored 13 points to go along with nine boards.

Sophomore forward Taren Sullivan ended the game with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting while senior forward John Staley went 6-of-6 from the field for 12 points as well.

Senior guard Dylan Kaufman also reached double figures with 11 points to go along with four assists.

George Edwards led Southern Indiana with 20 points and nine rebounds.

The Oilers will return to the court again tomorrow when they face Illinois-Springfield at 9pm in the second and final game of their trip to Las Vegas in the D2 Vegas Showdown.
