Findlay Opens GLIAC Play

The Oilers will open GLIAC play on the road at Lake Superior State (12/3) and Northwood (12/5).

Center Court with Charlie Ernst

Don't forget to tune into 88.3 FM "WLFC" for Center Court with Charlie Ernst.  The radio show will be aired live from Fricker's on Monday evenings during the season.  The show will be aired live from 6-6:30 p.m.  Fans are encouraged to attend the show so they can listen live over the sound system and enjoy the great food Fricker's has to offer.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 19-4 advantage in the all-time series against Lake Superior State dating back to the 1997-98 season when Findlay came away with a 68-57 win.

The Lakers earned a 70-62 win over the Oilers last season in Croy Gymnasium. Dylan Kaufman led Findlay with 15 points as he hit 4-of-7 attempts from three point range.

Nick Ruthsatz contributed 14 points and five rebounds while Jake Heagen added nine points, six rebounds and five assists.

Findlay is currently leading the all-time series against Northwood by a 22-6 margin dating back to the 1962-63 campaign when they defeated the Timberwolves by a 92-73 margin.

Last season the Oilers came away with a 70-64 win over Northwood in Croy Gymnasium. Kaufman led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Heagen contributed 14 points while Tyler Stern-Tucker, Elijah Kahlig and Ricardo Smith each had nine points. John Staley also had a good all-around performance with four points, six rebounds, three steals, three blocks and two assists.

Findlay

The Oilers came away with a thrilling 70-69 win over 3rd-ranked Bellarmine in their last game on Nov. 24 in Croy Gymnasium.

The Oilers shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58) from the floor. The Knights meanwhile were able to connect on 50 percent (24-of-48) of their shot attempts in the game.

Findlay grabbed 14 offensive rebounds in the win compared to only eight by Bellarmine. The Oilers defense also forced 19 turnovers in the game.

Martyce Kimbrough paced the Oilers with 16 points. He hit 4-of-11 shot attempts and connected on 3-of-9 tries from long range.

John Staley had 13 points and nine rebounds while Taren Sullivan recorded 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Tyler Stern-Tucker also reached double figures with ten points while Nick Ruthsatz finished with eight points and three assists.

Lake Superior State

The Lakers are 3-1 on the season and are coming off of a 84-56 win over Algoma on Nov. 24.

Lake Superior State is averaging 81.5 points per game and have been led by senior Devin Daly, who is pouring in 24.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest.

Sophomore Akaemji Williams is also off to a great start, averaging 18.8 points, 4.5 assists, 3.8 steals and 3.5 rebounds per contest.

Northwood

The Timberwolves are 3-2 on the year and are coming off of a 99-95 loss to Lewis on Nov. 24.

Northwood is racking up the points in the early part of the season, averaging 93.4 points per contest. They have been led by senior Maurice Jones, who is averaging 22.0 points, 8.0 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game.

Senior Dylan Langkabel is averaging 17.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while freshman Zach Allread (11.0), senior Jermaine Myers (11.0), sophomore Nick Spitzley (10.8) and sophomore Brad Schaub (10.2) are also scoring in double figures on a nightly basis.

1,000-Point Plateau

Senior guard Dylan Kaufman is looking to become the Oilers 44th player to reach the 1,000-point plateau during his senior season with the team. During his career, Kaufman has scored 808 points, leaving him 192 points shy of reaching the milestone.

Hitting the Offensive Glass

The Oilers have been very aggressive going after offensive rebounds this season, averaging 12.8 offensive boards per game. They hold a 51-33 advantage on the offensive glass against their opponents and have been led by senior John Staley, who has grabbed 17 offensive rebounds.

Overall, Staley leads the team in rebounding with 7.8 boards per contest. Sophomore forward Taren Sullivan, who has eight offensive rebounds on the year, is second on the team with 5.3 rebounds per game.

Magic Touch

Senior forward John Staley is hitting 64.5 percent (20-of-31) of his field goal attempts this season. Staley set a single season school record last season by converting 64.1 percent (107-of-167) of his shot attempts.

Stroking 3's

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough has made 14-of-28 (50%) three point tries this season. His made three pointers account for almost all of his made field goal attempts as he has converted 17-of-37 (45.9%) shot attempts overall.

An Elite Program

The Oilers have one of the best winning percentages in NCAA Division II competition since the year 2000, having won 374 games and lost only 92 for an overall winning percentage of .803.  During that timeframe, the Oilers reached the Elite 8 in 2005, appeared in the Sweet 16 in 2008 and won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2009 with a perfect 36-0 record.
