Lakers Top Oilers 77-54

The University of Findlay men's basketball team dropped their first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game of the season by a score of 77-54 on Dec. 3 against Lake Superior State in Sault Ste., Marie, Mich. The loss gives the Oilers a 2-3 record on the season with a 0-1 mark in conference play.

The Lakers came out on fire, hitting nine triples in the first half to open up a 50-27 lead. Lake Superior State flamed out a bit in the second half, hitting only one three pointer, but the Oilers were too far behind to catch up.

Sophomore forward Taren Sullivan and sophomore guard Elijah Kahlig led Findlay with nine points apiece.

Senior forward John Staley and senior guard Dylan Kaufman chipped in seven points apiece as well in the loss.

As a team, the Oilers shot 35.8 percent (19-of-53) from the floor while the Lakers hit 48.1 percent (26-of-54) from the field. The Lakers also canned 10-of-25 (40%) attempts from three point range while the Oilers connected on only 5-of-19 (26.3%) shot attempts from long range.

Devin Daly paced the Lakers with 25 points and 12 rebounds while Carson Manger scored 17. Akaemji Williams also had a good game, scoring 16 points to go along with eight assists.

The Oilers will look to rebound on Dec. 5 when they face Northwood University at 3 p.m. in Midland, Mich.
