Huskies, Wildcats Come to Town

The Oilers will host Michigan Technological University and Northern Michigan University this week in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action. The Oilers and Huskies will play at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday before the Wildcats come to town for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday in Croy Gymnasium.

Don't forget to tune into 88.3 FM "WLFC" for Center Court with Charlie Ernst.  The radio show will be aired live from Fricker's on Monday evenings during the season.  The show will be aired live from 6-6:30 p.m.  Fans are encouraged to attend the show so they can listen live over the sound system and enjoy the great food Fricker's has to offer.

Series Information

The Oilers hold an 18-8 advantage in the all-time series against the Huskies dating back to the 1997-98 campaign when Michigan Tech was victorious by an 81-71 margin.

The Huskies came away with a 70-59 win over the Oilers last season in Houghton, Mich. The Huskies used a 13-0 run in the final 3:26 of the first half to take a 39-28 lead at the break and withstood several spurts from the Oilers in the second half to claim the victory.

Findlay shot 42.9 percent (18-of-42) from the floor in the game and made 50 percent (11-of-22) of their three point tries. The Huskies meanwhile shot a blistering 55.3 percent (26-of-47) from the field, which included a 12-of-23 (52.2%) showing from long range.  Michigan Tech also held a 30-19 advantage on the boards and out-scored the Oilers by a 22-10 margin in the paint.

Dylan Kaufman led the Oilers with 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting while Jake Heagen produced 12 points on a 4-of-6 showing from the floor.

Ben Stelzer led the Huskies with 24 points.

The Oilers sport a 16-4 record against the Wildcats dating back to the 1997-98 campaign when Northern Michigan came out on top by a score of 68-57. They have won the last ten games against the Wildcats as well.

The Wildcats topped the Oilers by a score of 81-74 last season in Marquette, Mich.

Findlay shot 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the floor and canned 9-of-19 (47.4%) shot attempts from three point range. In comparison, Northern Michigan hit 56.6 percent (30-of-53) of their field goal attempts and drained 9-of-13 (69.2%) tries from long range in the game.

Dylan Kaufman paced the Oilers with 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He hit 5-of-6 shot attempts from three point land and also added seven rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.

Jake Heagen had 16 points, three rebounds and three assists while Ricardo Smith and John Staley had eight points apiece.

Marcus Hall led four Northern Michigan players in double figures with 17 points.

Findlay

The Oilers fell 75-56 to Northwood University on Dec. 5 in Midland, Mich. The loss gave the Oilers a 2-4 record on the season with a 0-2 mark in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves connected on 52.7 percent (29-of-55) attempts from the field and held Findlay to a 40.7 percent (22-of-54) shooting clip. Northwood also held a 35-25 advantage on the boards.

Martyce Kimbrough led the Oilers with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting. The Oilers also got 12 points and seven rebounds while John Staley had ten points and six boards.

Dylan Kaufman came off the bench to provide seven points and four assists while Alex White had three points and six rebounds.

Maurice Jones led the Timberwolves with 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

Michigan Tech

The Huskies are 2-3 on the year with a 1-1 record in conference play. They are coming off of an 83-71 loss at home against Walsh.

Freshman Kyle Monroe is leading the team with an average of 18.6 points per game. Monroe is also grabbing a team-high 8.4 rebounds per contest and is making 2.6 three pointers per game.

Freshman Bryan Heath is also off to a strong start and sports averages of 17.8 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

Northern Michigan

The Wildcats are 2-3 on the season and have a 1-1 record in GLIAC play. They are coming off of a 68-67 win over Malone.

Freshman Naba Echols is leading the team with averages of 15.0 points, 2.6 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game.

Sophomore Jordan Perez is also averaging in double figures at 10.6 points per contest while senior Terry Nash is scoring 9.6 points per outing.

1,000-Point Plateau

Senior guard Dylan Kaufman is looking to become the Oilers 44th player to reach the 1,000-point plateau during his senior season with the team. During his career, Kaufman has scored 822 points, leaving him 178 points shy of reaching the milestone.

Hitting the Offensive Glass

The Oilers have been very aggressive going after offensive rebounds this season, averaging 10.5 offensive boards per game. They hold a 63-42 advantage on the offensive glass against their opponents and have been led by senior John Staley, who has grabbed 19 offensive rebounds.

Overall, Staley leads the team in rebounding with 6.8 boards per contest. Sophomore forward Taren Sullivan, who has nine offensive rebounds on the year, is second on the team with 5.2 rebounds per game.

Magic Touch

Senior forward John Staley is hitting 69.2 percent (27-of-39) of his field goal attempts this season. Staley's shooting percentage is the third best mark in the GLIAC this year.

Staley set a single season school record last season by converting 64.1 percent (107-of-167) of his shot attempts.

Stroking 3's

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough has made 16-of-37 (43.2%) three point tries this season. His made three pointers account for almost all of his made field goal attempts as he has converted 24-of-56 (42.9%) shot attempts overall.

Kimbrough is making 2.7 three pointers per contest on the year. His total is the fifth best mark in the conference.

A Tough Place to Play

The Oilers are 570-116 (.830) in Croy Gymnasium since they starting playing home games there during the 1969-70 season.  They have gone undefeated at home eight times in a season since they began play in Croy Gymnasium as well. 

In the past ten years the Oilers have posted a staggering 145-8 record at home for an incredible winning percentage of .948.

From 2004-11, the Oilers won 71-straight home games, which at the time was the longest streak in the nation regardless of NCAA division.

Dominating GLIAC Home Games

The Oilers have won 104 of their last 109 regular season conference games at home.  From 2004-13, the Oilers won 84-straight GLIAC games in Croy Gymnasium.
