Oilers Hold Off Huskies
The University of Findlay men's basketball team came away with a 62-52 win over Michigan Technological University on Dec. 10 in Croy Gymnasium. The victory gives the Oilers a 3-4 record on the season with a 1-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
In a typical matchup between the two schools, the Oilers survived a poor shooting effort to pick up their first conference win of the season. The Oilers only shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58) from the floor, but forced 17 turnovers in the game. They also held the Huskies to a 40.4 percent (21-of-52) shooting clip and only committed four turnovers in the victory.
Junior forward Tyler Stern-Tucker led the Oilers and came off the bench to record his first career double-double with a season-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. His ten boards were a career-high and he made all eight of his free throw attempts in the game, which also established a new career-high for makes and attempts from the charity stripe.
Senior guard Dylan Kaufman had nine points and four rebounds while sophomore guard Austin Gardner had a season-high eight points to go along with three assists and two steals.
Sophomore forward Taren Sullivan chipped in seven points and three rebounds while freshman forward Alex White was valuable off the pine with two points, three rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
The Huskies had two players record double-doubles in the game and were led by Kyle Monroe's 17 points and 15 rebounds. Luke Heller also contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds in the contest.
The Oilers will host Northern Michigan on Saturday at 3 p.m. in their next game.
