Oilers Host Marygrove on Saturday

The Oilers will host Marygrove College on Saturday, Dec. 19 in non-conference action. The game is scheduled to tip at 3 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.

Don't forget to tune into 88.3 FM "WLFC" for Center Court with Charlie Ernst.  The radio show will be aired live from Fricker's on Monday evenings during the season.  The show will be aired live from 6-6:30 p.m.  Fans are encouraged to attend the show so they can listen live over the sound system and enjoy the great food Fricker's has to offer.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series against Marygrove dating back to the 2006-07 campaign when Findlay won by a score of 86-58.

The two programs last met during the 2013-14 season. Findlay won that contest by a score of 105-50.

The Oilers built a 20-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game and never looked back as they cruised to the victory.

Findlay held a 60-16 advantage in points in the paint and got 62 points from their bench in the win.  They connected on 50 percent (42-of-84) of their field goal attempts and grabbed 59 rebounds in the game.

Greg Kahlig and Austin Gardner led six Findlay players in double figures with 14 points apiece.

Kahlig also added eight rebounds and three assists in 15 minutes while Gardner grabbed five boards and dished out two assists in the game. Ricardo Smith stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block as well.

Findlay

The Oilers held on for a 73-71 win over Northern Michigan on Dec. 12 in Croy Gymnasium. The win evened the Oilers record at 4-4 on the season with a 2-2 mark in GLIAC play.

The Oilers jumped out to a 43-29 lead at the half on the strength of an 8-of-13 (61.5%) performance from behind the three point line. The Wildcats would not go quietly however as they fought back to take a 65-64 lead with three minutes to play.

Trailing by one point, Alex White scored the next three points for the Oilers to give them a 67-65 advantage with just over two minutes remaining. Tyler Stern-Tucker then split a pair of free throws to push the lead to three before the Wildcats scored to cut the lead back to one.

After trading a few buckets, Austin Gardner split a pair at the line and Martyce Kimbrough made two attempts from the charity stripe with only eight seconds remaining to give Findlay a 73-69 lead. The Wildcats would then score on a lay-up for the final margin of the game.

The Oilers shot a season-high 49 percent (24-of-49) from the floor, but were out-rebounded 42-27. They hit 60 percent (9-of-15) of their three point attempts and had 13 assists in the win. Kimbrough paced the team with 14 points and five assists while White had a career-high 14 points to go along with six rebounds.

Dylan Kaufman also reached double figures with 11 points.

Marygrove

The Mustangs are 1-11 on the year and are coming off of a 101-59 loss at Western Michigan on Dec. 12 in an exhibition game.

Diante Taylor leads the team with averages of 11.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Elijah Ingram and Ta'Kein Dixson are both averaging 10.8 points per contest while Kenneth Miller is scoring 10.3 points per outing.

The Mustangs are averaging 70.8 points per game on the year and are giving up 87.0 points per contest.

1,000-Point Plateau

Senior guard Dylan Kaufman is looking to become the Oilers 44th player to reach the 1,000-point plateau during his senior season with the team. During his career, Kaufman has scored 842 points, leaving him 158 points shy of reaching the milestone.

Magic Touch

Senior forward John Staley is hitting 64.6 percent (31-of-48) of his field goal attempts this season. Staley's shooting percentage is the third best mark in the GLIAC this year.

Staley set a single season school record last season by converting 64.1 percent (107-of-167) of his shot attempts.

Stroking 3's

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough has made 19-of-45 (42.2%) three point tries this season. His made three pointers account for almost all of his made field goal attempts as he has converted 30-of-72 (41.7%) shot attempts overall.

Kimbrough is making 2.4 three pointers per contest on the year. His total is the fifth best mark in the conference.

A Tough Place to Play

The Oilers are 572-116 (.830) in Croy Gymnasium since they starting playing home games there during the 1969-70 season.  They have gone undefeated at home eight times in a season since they began play in Croy Gymnasium as well. 

In the past ten years the Oilers have posted a staggering 147-8 record at home for an incredible winning percentage of .948.

From 2004-11, the Oilers won 71-straight home games, which at the time was the longest streak in the nation regardless of NCAA division.

Handling Non-Conference Foes

The Oilers have posted a 60-3 record (.952) against non-conference opponents in games played at Croy Gymnasium during the past ten years.  Their last loss at home to a non-conference team came against #1 West Liberty State by a score of 90-74 on Nov. 14, 2012.
