The University of Findlay men's basketball team used a big first half to claim an 82-66 win over Grand Valley State University on Jan. 3 in Allendale, Mich. The win gives the Oilers a 6-5 record on the season with a 3-3 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Oilers jumped out to a 57-36 at the break on the strength of hot shooting from behind the three point line. In the opening period, the Oilers canned 12-of-21 (57.1&) tries from three point range and hit 60 percent (21-of-35) of their field goal attempts.

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough contributed heavily in the Oilers offensive explosion during the first half with 22 points, which included six triples.

For the game, the Oilers shot 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the field and made a season-high 13-of-29 (44.8%) tries from three point land. They also forced 17 turnovers in the game as well.

Kimbrough paced the squad with a career-high 29 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He made 6-of-11 shot attempts from behind the three point line and also canned all seven of his free throw attempts in the win.

Sophomore forward Taren Sullivan reached double figures with 13 points, five rebounds and three assists while sophomore guard Nick Ruthsatz and senior guard Dylan Kaufman each pumped in nine points apiece in the game.

Junior forward Tyler Stern-Tucker provided valuable minutes off the bench with six points and seven rebounds while sophomore guard Elijah Kahlig had five points in the victory, which was the first road win against the Lakers since the 2008-09 campaign.

The Oilers will return home to host Saginaw Valley State University on Jan. 7 in their next game. The league contest is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
