Oilers Host Panthers, Travel to Tiffin

The Oilers are back at it again this week with a home game against Ohio Dominican and a road contest against Tiffin. The Oilers and Panthers will battle at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 in Croy Gymnasium. The Oilers and Dragons will then play a 1 p.m. contest on Jan. 16 in Tiffin.

Don't forget to tune into 88.3 FM "WLFC" for Center Court with Charlie Ernst.  The radio show will be aired live from Fricker's on Monday evenings during the season.  The show will be aired live from 6-6:30 p.m.  Fans are encouraged to attend the show so they can listen live over the sound system and enjoy the great food Fricker's has to offer.

Series Information

The Oilers have posted a 27-7 advantage in the all-time series against Ohio Dominican dating back to the 1969-70 campaign when they were victorious by a score of 87-69.

The Oilers split their regular season series with the Panthers last year with each team claiming a win on their home floor.  Ohio Dominican scored a 55-52 win over Findlay in Columbus before the Oilers claimed a 73-63 victory in Croy.

In the road loss, the Oilers had trouble putting the ball in the basket as they hit only 32.2 percent (19-of-59) of their shot attempts, which included a 4-of-21 (19%) showing from three point range. Nick Ruthsatz came off the bench to lead the Oilers in scoring with 13 points while Jake Heagen recorded a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.

In their win at home, the Oilers shot 40.7 percent (24-of-59) from the floor and held a 42-31 advantage on the boards in the win. They also forced 16 turnovers and came away with nine steals in the game. Heagen paced the team with 15 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals while Ricardo Smith had 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and three blocks.

The Oilers hold a commanding 42-8 advantage in the all-time series against the Dragons dating back to the 1926-27 campaign when Tiffin won 22-21.

The Oilers swept the Dragons last year, winning 85-54 in Croy and 62-48 in Tiffin.

In the win at home, the Oilers jumped out to a 42-13 lead at the break and never looked back. They shot 55.6 percent (30-of-54) from the floor and canned 13-of-25 (52%) of their three point tries in the game.

Elijah Kahlig led the way with a career-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting. He also connected on a career-high 6-of-8 attempts from behind the three point line and added four rebounds in the win. Jake Heagen recorded 16 points, five rebounds and three steals while Dylan Kaufman came up with 16 points off the bench for Findlay.

In the road win, Staley dropped 20 points on the strength of 8-of-12 shooting from the charity stripe and 6-of-9 from the field. Dylan Kaufman finished with 11 points while Jake Heagen posted 10 points and eight rebounds.

Findlay

The Oilers are 8-5 on the season with a 5-3 record in conference play.  They are coming off of an 80-69 win over Hillsdale last Saturday.

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough has paced the squad this season and is averaging a team-best 14.2 points per game. The Lima, Ohio native ranks fourth in the GLIAC with 34 made three pointers and leads the conference with a 92.1 percent shooting clip from the free throw line.

Senior John Staley is leading the GLIAC in shooting percentage at 74.4 percent and is also scoring 10.5 points per contest. Sophomore forward Taren Sullivan is also averaging in double figures at 10.2 points per outing.

Ohio Dominican

The Panthers are 5-9 on the season with a 2-6 record in GLIAC play. They are coming off of a pair of home wins last week as they defeated 13th-ranked Lake Superior State 87-75 and Northwood 93-54.

The team has been led by senior Trent Weaver, who is scoring 14.6 points per outing. Weaver is also grabbing 9.4 rebounds per contest.

Sophomore Ronnie Williams is averaging 13.3 points per game while senior Chad Nelson is contributing 11.2 points per contest.

Tiffin

The Dragons are 6-9 on the season with a 2-6 record in conference competition. They are coming off of a 76-63 loss to 13th-ranked Lake Superior State.

Sophomore Tony Kynard has paced the team with averages of 16.4 points, 4.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game while senior Chrisean Marsden is scoring 12.7 points per contest.

Sophomore Alex Brown and senior Andy Bachman are also averagign in double figures at 11.6 and 11.5 points per game, respectively.

Magic Touch

Senior forward John Staley is hitting 74.4 percent (58-of-78) of his field goal attempts this season. Staley's shooting percentage is the best mark in the GLIAC this year. The shooting perentage is also the top mark in the nation.

Staley set a single season school record last season by converting 64.1 percent (107-of-167) of his shot attempts.

Stroking 3's

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough is ranked fourth in the GLIAC with 34 made three pointers this season. He is making 2.6 triples per contest and shooting 42.5 percent (34-of-80) from three point range.

Automatic From the Line

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough is hitting 92.1 percent (35-of-38) of his attempts from the free throw line this year. His shooting percentage from the charity stripe is the best in the GLIAC and the 11th best mark in the nation.

A Tough Place to Play

The Oilers are 575-116 (.830) in Croy Gymnasium since they starting playing home games there during the 1969-70 season.  They have gone undefeated at home eight times in a season since they began play in Croy Gymnasium as well. 

In the past ten years the Oilers have posted a staggering 150-8 record at home for an incredible winning percentage of .949.

From 2004-11, the Oilers won 71-straight home games, which at the time was the longest streak in the nation regardless of NCAA division.

Dominating GLIAC Home Games

The Oilers have won 108 of their last 113 regular season conference games at home.  From 2004-13, the Oilers won 84-straight GLIAC games in Croy Gymnasium.
