Oilers Look to Extend Streak vs. Walsh/Malone

The Oilers will host Walsh University on Thursday, Jan. 28 before traveling to Canton, Ohio to take on Malone University on Saturday, Jan. 30 this week. The Oilers and Cavaliers will play at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in Croy. The Oilers and Pioneers will then tip at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 16-9 lead in the all-time series against Walsh dating back to the 1964-65 campaign when Findlay came away with a 77-71 victory.

The two programs split their season series last year. The Cavaliers claimed a 76-69 win over the Oilers in Canton before Findlay came away with a 77-64 victory in Croy Gymnasium.

In the road loss, the Oilers, who shot 44.6 percent (25-of-56) from the floor, were led by John Staley and his 15 points. Staley hit 7-of-8 shot attempts in the game and also added four rebounds.

Dylan Kaufman, Jake Heagen and Nick Ruthsatz each scored 13 points apiece for the Oilers as well.

In their win at home, the Oilers built a 37-33 lead at the break before opening the second half with a 23-2 run to put away the Cavaliers. Jake Heagen paced the Oilers with 24 points, hitting six triples in the game.

John Staley added 17 points and seven rebounds while Dylan Kaufman nearly recorded a triple-double with 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

The Oilers currently lead the all-time series against Malone by a 32-14 margin, winning the first meeting by a score of 86-63 during the 1959-60 campaign.

Findlay won both games against Malone last season. The Oilers secured a 62-50 win in Croy and a 70-62 victory in Canton.

In the win in Croy, Jake Heagen led the way with 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals. He hit 5-of-7 shot attempts and connected on 3-of-4 tries from three point range.

John Staley and Ricardo Smith each scored eight points apiece while Elijah Kahlig had seven.

In the road victory, Jake Heagen led five Oilers in double figures with 14 points and six rebounds while John Staley had 12 points and six boards.

Dylan Kaufman ended the game with 12 points while Taren Sullivan came off the bench to provide 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Elijah Kahlig also reached double figures with ten points while Ricardo Smith had eight points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Findlay

The Oilers are 12-5 on the season with a 9-3 record in GLIAC play. They have won seven straight games and are in first place in the South Division of the GLIAC.

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough has paced the squad and is averaging 14.9 points per contest. Sophomore forward Taren Sullivan is averaging 11.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while senior forward John Staley is producing 10.4 points and 4.8 rebounds each contest.

The Oilers are currently undefeated in Croy this season with a 9-0 record.

Walsh

The Cavaliers are 9-7 on the year with a 7-5 record in conference play. They are coming off of a 69-66 loss at Tiffin last Saturday.

Senior Jesse Hardin Jr. leads the team and is averaging 20.0 points per game. He is also grabbing 6.7 rebounds per game and has made a GLIAC-best 56 three pointers.

Juniors Trey Fletcher and Zac Carter are also playing well for Walsh and are averaging 16.2 and 15.2 points per game, respectively.

Malone

The Pioneers are 3-14 on the year with a 0-12 record in GLIAC competition. They are coming off of a 91-69 loss at Ohio Dominican last Saturday.

Senior Brian Stone has led the team and is averaging 14.0 points per game. Sophomore Mitchell Spotleson is having a great season too and is averaging 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest.

Junior Christian Graves is giving the Pioneers 12.4 points per game while senior Stephen O'Daniel III is posting 11.2 points per outing.

1,000-Point Plateau

Senior guard Dylan Kaufman is looking to become the Oilers 44th player to reach the 1,000-point plateau during his senior season with the team. During his career, Kaufman has scored 929 points, leaving him 71 points shy of reaching the milestone.

Magic Touch

Senior forward John Staley is hitting 73.3 percent (74-of-101) of his field goal attempts this season. Staley's shooting percentage is the second best mark in the GLIAC this year. The shooting perentage is also the fourth highest mark in the nation.

Staley set a single season school record last season by converting 64.1 percent (107-of-167) of his shot attempts.

Stroking 3's

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough is ranked fourth in the GLIAC with 45 made three pointers this season. He is making 2.6 triples per contest and shooting 40.9 percent (45-of-110) from three point range.

Automatic From the Line

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough is hitting 90.4 percent (47-of-52) of his attempts from the free throw line this year. His shooting percentage from the charity stripe is the third highest in the GLIAC and the 15th best mark in the nation.

A Tough Place to Play

The Oilers are 578-116 (.833) in Croy Gymnasium since they starting playing home games there during the 1969-70 season.  They have gone undefeated at home eight times in a season since they began play in Croy Gymnasium as well. 

In the past ten years the Oilers have posted a staggering 153-8 record at home for an incredible winning percentage of .950.

From 2004-11, the Oilers won 71-straight home games, which at the time was the longest streak in the nation regardless of NCAA division.

Dominating GLIAC Home Games

The Oilers have won 111 of their last 116 regular season conference games at home.  From 2004-13, the Oilers won 84-straight GLIAC games in Croy Gymnasium.
