Oilers at #25 Ashland, Lake Erie this Week

The Oilers will be on the road for two games this week. They will face 25th-ranked Ashland on Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. before battling Lake Erie at 3:00 p.m. on Feb. 13.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 62-28 advantage in the all-time series against Ashland dating back to the 1910-11 campaign when Findlay won 35-10.

The two programs split their season series last season with each team winning on their home floor. The Eagles scored an 80-47 win in Ashland while the Oilers claimed an 89-78 win in Findlay.

In the road loss, the Oilers made only 15 field goals in the game, hitting 31.9 percent (15-of-47) of their shot attempts. They converted a mere 3-of-20 (15%) three point tries and were out-rebounded by a 42-27 margin.

Dylan Kaufman scored a game-high 21 points for the Oilers, hitting 7-of-9 field goal attempts. Kaufman made nearly half of Findlay's field goals in the game and accounted for all three made three pointers.

In the home win, Findlay shot 55.6 percent (30-of-54) from the floor and canned 10-of-19 (52.6%) attempts from behind the three point line.

Jake Heagen led the way with 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Tyler Stern-Tucker came off the bench to provide 15 points and five rebounds while Dylan Kaufman had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists.

The Oilers hold an 19-1 advantage in the all-time series against Lake Erie dating back to the 1988-89 campaign when Findlay was victorious by a score of 84-51.

The Oilers grinded out a 78-69 win over the Storm on Jan. 23 in Croy Gymnasium.

Taren Sullivan led the Oilers with 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting. He made 8-of-9 attempts from the charity stripe and also chipped in four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Martyce Kimbrough also reached double figures with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting while Austin Gardner had nine points to go along with four assists, three rebounds and two steals.

John Staley added nine points while Alex White provided eight points and six rebounds off the bench.

Dylan Kaufman played a great all-around game and ended the afternoon with five points, six assists and four rebounds.

Findlay

The Oilers are 17-5 on the season with a 14-3 record in GLIAC play. They have won 12 straight games and are in first place in the South Division of the GLIAC.

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough has paced the squad and is averaging 15.4 points per contest. Sophomore forward Taren Sullivan is averaging 13.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while senior forward John Staley is producing 10.4 points and 5.2 rebounds each contest.

#25 Ashland

The Eagles are 19-4 on the season with a 13-4 record in conference play. They are ranked 25th in the nation and are coming off of a 65-63 win against Malone on Feb. 6.

Junior Wendell Davis leads the team and sports averages of 18.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Sophomore Marsalis Hamilton (12.3), junior Boo Osborne (12.0) and junior Adrian Cook (11.3) are also averaging in double figures.

Lake Erie

The Storm are 8-15 on the season with a 5-12 record in GLIAC play. They are coming off of an 85-76 loss against Walsh on Feb. 6.

Senior Andy Bosley is averaging 14.6 points per game to lead the team. Senior Trey Howard (13.1), junior Michael Morris (11.0) and junior Sean Howard (10.1) are also scoring in double figures this season.

1,000-Point Plateau

Senior guard Dylan Kaufman is looking to become the Oilers 44th player to reach the 1,000-point plateau during his senior season with the team. During his career, Kaufman has scored 978 points, leaving him 22 points shy of reaching the milestone.

GLIAC Player of the Week

Sophomore forward Taren Sullivan was tabbed the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week on Feb. 8 for the first time in his career.

Sullivan led the Oilers to three wins from Feb. 1-6 by averaging 23.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He began the week with 17 points in the Oilers 76-68 win over Wayne State on Feb. 1. He then poured in 26 points and 6 rebounds in Findlay's 95-67 win at Ohio Dominican on Feb. 4 before scoring a career-high 27 points in the Oilers 94-75 win against Tiffin on Feb. 6.

Sullivan shot 62.5 percent (25-of-40) from the floor and connected on 64.3 percent (9-of-14) of his three point tries during the week.

Receiving Votes

The Oilers have started to receive votes in the NCAA Division II national poll. They received four votes in the latest poll, which was released on Feb. 8.

Red Hot

The Oilers have made ten or more three pointers in four straight games. During the stretch, Findlay has connected on 50-of-91 (54.9%) shot attempts from behind the three point line.

Automatic From the Line

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough is hitting 91.8 percent (55-of-61) of his attempts from the free throw line this year. His shooting percentage from the charity stripe is the second highest in the GLIAC and the eighth best mark in the nation.
