Oilers Head to Walsh, Host Malone for Senior Day

The Oilers will travel to Canton, Ohio on Thursday to face Walsh University at 7:30 p.m. before returning home to host Malone University on Saturday for senior day beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 17-9 lead in the all-time series against Walsh dating back to the 1964-65 campaign when Findlay came away with a 77-71 victory.

The Oilers claimed a 79-57 win over the Cavaliers earlier this season in Croy Gymnasium. The Oilers held a 33-31 advantage at the break and then went out and out-scored the Cavaliers by a 46-26 margin in the second half.

For the game, the Oilers shot 45.7 percent (32-of-70) from the floor and held the Cavaliers to a mere 28.6 percent (20-of-70) shooting clip. Findlay also held a 44-22 advantage in points in the paint and came away with 11 blocks in the victory.

Taren Sullivan paced the Oilers with 16 points, five rebounds and three assists while Martyce Kimbrough added 16 points and a rebound.

John Staley had 15 points and eight rebounds while Alex White contributed 12 points, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals in 15 minutes off the bench.

Dylan Kaufman chipped in six points and six rebounds while Austin Gardner had three points, five rebounds and five assists.

The Oilers currently lead the all-time series against Malone by a 34-13 margin, winning the first meeting by a score of 86-63 during the 1959-60 campaign.

Findlay came away with an 83-67 win over the Pioneers earlier this season in Canton, Ohio. The Oilers shot 50.8 percent (30-of-59) from the floor and canned a season-high 16-of-30 (53.3%) shot attempts from behind the three point line. They also held the Pioneers to a 43.5 percent (27-of-62) shooting clip en route to securing the 100th career victory for head coach Charlie Ernst.

Taren Sullivan paced the team with 18 points and eight rebounds. Sullivan hit 6-of-10 shot attempts from the field and also canned three triples.

Martyce Kimbrough hit three triples and finished the game with 15 points while Dylan Kaufman splashed four treys and ended the win with 14 points and four rebounds.

Nick Ruthsatz completed the game with ten points and three assists while Elijah Kahlig had nine points on the strength of a 3-for-4 showing from behind the three point line.

Findlay

The Oilers are 17-7 on the season with a 14-5 record in GLIAC play. They are coming off of an 81-67 loss in overtime at Lake Erie on Feb. 13.

Sophomore guard Martyce Kimbrough has paced the squad and is averaging 15.1 points per contest. Sophomore forward Taren Sullivan is averaging 13.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while senior forward John Staley is producing 10.8 points and 5.6 rebounds each contest.

The Oilers are currently undefeated in Croy this season with a 12-0 record as well.

Walsh

The Cavaliers are 12-11 on the season with a 10-9 record in conference play. They are coming off of an 88-69 win over Tiffin on Feb. 13.

Senior Jesse Hardin Jr. leads the team and is averaging 19.8 points per game. He is also grabbing 6.3 rebounds per contest to go along with 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Hardin is also shooting 41.4 percent from three point range and is making 3.4 triples per outing.

Junior Trey Fletcher is scoring 18.1 points and grabbing 6.4 rebounds per game while junior Zac Carter is chipping in 15.8 points on a nightly basis.

Malone

The Pioneers are 6-18 on the season with a 3-16 mark in GLIAC action. They are coming off of a 64-47 win against Ohio Dominican on Feb. 13.

Senior Brian Stone leads the team and is averaging 14.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Sophomore Mitchel Spotleson is contributing 12.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest as well.

Senior Stephen O'Daniell (12.1), junior Christian Graves (10.9) and senior Jay Parker (10.6) are also scoring in double figures this season.

1,000-Point Plateau

Senior guard Dylan Kaufman is looking to become the Oilers 44th player to reach the 1,000-point plateau during his senior season with the team. During his career, Kaufman has scored 991 points, leaving him nine points shy of reaching the milestone.

Magic Touch

Senior forward John Staley is hitting 72.1 percent (111-of-154) of his field goal attempts this season. Staley's shooting percentage is the best mark in the GLIAC this year. Staley set a single season school record last season by converting 64.1 percent (107-of-167) of his shot attempts.

A Tough Place to Play

The Oilers are 581-116 (.833) in Croy Gymnasium since they starting playing home games there during the 1969-70 season.  They have gone undefeated at home eight times in a season since they began play in Croy Gymnasium as well. 

In the past ten years the Oilers have posted a staggering 156-8 record at home for an incredible winning percentage of .951. From 2004-11, the Oilers won 71-straight home games, which at the time was the longest streak in the nation regardless of NCAA division.

Dominating GLIAC Home Games

The Oilers have won 114 of their last 119 regular season conference games at home.  From 2004-13, the Oilers won 84-straight GLIAC games in Croy Gymnasium.
