Oilers Host Northwood/Lake Superior St. this Week

The Oilers will host a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) games this week in Croy Gymnasium. They will host Northwood University on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. before welcoming Lake Superior State University to town on Dec. 10 for a 3:00 p.m. contest.

Series Information

Findlay is currently leading the all-time series against Northwood by a 22-7 margin dating back to the 1962-63 campaign when they defeated the Timberwolves by a 92-73 margin.

Northwood claimed a 75-56 win over Findlay last year in Midland. The Timberwolves connected on 52.7 percent (29-of-55) attempts from the field and held Findlay to a 40.7 percent (22-of-54) shooting clip. Northwood also held a 35-25 advantage on the boards.

Martyce Kimbrough led the Oilers with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting. The Oilers also got 12 points and seven rebounds while John Staley had ten points and six boards.

Dylan Kaufman came off the bench to provide seven points and four assists while Alex White had three points and six rebounds.

Maurice Jones led the Timberwolves with 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

The Oilers hold a 19-5 advantage in the all-time series against Lake Superior State dating back to the 1997-98 season when Findlay came away with a 68-57 win.

Lake Superior State earned a 77-54 win over Findlay last season in Sault Ste. Marie. Taren Sullivan and Elijah Kahlig led Findlay with nine points apiece.

John Staley and Dylan Kaufman chipped in seven points apiece as well in the loss.

As a team, the Oilers shot 35.8 percent (19-of-53) from the floor while the Lakers hit 48.1 percent (26-of-54) from the field. The Lakers also canned 10-of-25 (40%) attempts from three point range while the Oilers connected on only 5-of-19 (26.3%) shot attempts from long range.

Devin Daly paced the Lakers with 25 points and 12 rebounds while Carson Manger scored 17. Akaemji Williams also had a good game, scoring 16 points to go along with eight assists.

Findlay

The Oilers outlasted Ferris State in an overtime thriller in Big Rapids, Mich. on Dec. 4, winning 81-77.

Junior forward Taren Sullivan led the way as he tied his career-high with 27 points. He hit 11-of-17 shooting attempts and also added seven rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.

Junior guard Martyce Kimbrough had 12 points, four assists and three rebounds while sophomore forward Alex White had 11 points and six boards.

Senior forward Tyler Stern-Tucker contributed eight points, six rebounds and three blocks while senior guard Ricardo Smith had seven points and five assists. Junior guard Austin Gardner only scored four points, but he had six assists, four steals and three rebounds.

Findlay shot 44.9 percent (31-of-69) from the floor and made 8-of-17 (47.1%) attempts from behind the three point line. They also forced 17 turnovers and came away with seven steals in the win.

Northwood

The Timberwolves are 1-8 on the season with a 1-1 record in GLIAC competition. They are coming off of a 64-63 loss at home to Ashland on Dec. 3.

The Timberwolves have been led by Matt Crowl, who is averaging 11.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

Nick Spitzley is contributing 10.3 points points per contest while Zach Allread and Kyle Lamotte are scoring 8.1 and 7.9 points per game, respectively.

Northwood is shooting 40.4 percent from the floor and out-rebounding their opponents by 5.4 boards per outing.

Lake Superior State

The Lakers are 3-2 on the season with a 1-1 record in GLIAC play. They are coming off of a 102-93 win over Tiffin on Dec. 3.

The Lakers are scoring 94.4 points per game and shooting 50.3 percent from the floor. They are also making 10.2 three pointers per game and shooting 41.8 percent from long range.

Akaemji Williams leads the team and is averaging 24.4 points, 10.0 assists, 4.6 steals and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Carson Manger is averaging 18.0 points per outing while Michael Nicholson and Blake Marquardt are contributing 12.8 and 12.6 points per game, respectively.

A Tough Place to Play

The Oilers are 584-117 (.833) in Croy Gymnasium since they starting playing home games there during the 1969-70 season.  They have gone undefeated at home eight times in a season since they began play in Croy Gymnasium as well. 

In the past ten years the Oilers have posted a staggering 129-7 record at home for an incredible winning percentage of .949.

From 2004-11, the Oilers won 71-straight home games, which at the time was the longest streak in the nation regardless of NCAA division.

Dominating GLIAC Home Games

The Oilers have won 115 of their last 120 regular season conference games at home.  From 2004-13, the Oilers won 84-straight GLIAC games in Croy Gymnasium.
