Oilers Whip Wildcats 100-56
The University of Findlay men's basketball team was clicking on all cylinders against Northern Michigan University as they defeated the Wildcats by a score of 100-56 on Dec. 15 in Marquette, Mich. The win gives the Oilers a 6-3 record on the year.
The Oilers trailed the Wildcats 18-16 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half before going on an incredible 33-5 run to take a 49-21 lead with just under four minutes to play in the opening period. The Oilers would eventually take a 55-29 lead at the break as they shot 64.9 percent (24-of-37) from the floor during the first half. The Oilers then cruised through the second half to improve their record to 3-2 on the season in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.
The Oilers shot a season-high 61.4 percent (43-of-70) from the floor and also established season-highs with their 100 points, 50 rebounds, 43 made field goals and 12 steals. They also held the Wildcats to a mere 31.9 percent (22-of-69) shooting clip and forced 13 turnovers in the win.
Junior guard Martyce Kimbrough led the Oilers with 19 points and four rebounds while sophomore forward Alex White scored a career-high 17 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Senior forward Tyler Stern-Tucker came off the bench to provide a season-high 16 points and nine rebounds. He also made all seven of his field goal attempts.
Junior forward Taren Sullivan reached double figures with 12 points and stuffed the stat sheet with six rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Junior guard Elijah Kahlig added eight points while senior guard Ricardo Smith, sophomore guard Trey Smith and red-shirt freshman forward Aaron Overhiser each had seven points apiece. Smith and Overhiser each established a new career-high with their point totals while Smith also established new bests in rebounds (6) and steals (4).
Sophomore forward Katwan Singleton set a career-high with seven rebounds while freshman forward Chazz George established a season-high with four points in the win.
Findlay will now have a day to get ready for Michigan Technological University. The Oilers will face the Huskies on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Houghton, Mich.
