Oilers Take Down #6 Cardinals 88-78

The University of Findlay men's basketball team claimed an 88-78 win over 6th-ranked Saginaw Valley State University on Jan. 5 in Croy Gymnasium to push their record to 11-3 on the season.

The Oilers jumped out to a 48-40 lead at the break and held off the Cardinals in the second half to give them a 5-2 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play this season. They shot 52.5 percent (31-of-59) from the floor and made 8-of-20 (40%) attempts from three point range in the game.

Junior guard Martyce Kimbrough led the way with 28 points on 9-of-15 shooting. He made 4-of-9 shot attempts from three point land and drained all six of his attempts from the free throw line.

Senior forward Tyler Stern-Tucker recorded a career-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting while junior forward Taren Sullivan finished one rebound shy of posting a triple-double with ten points, ten assists and nine boards.

Senior guard Ricardo Smith added eight points and eight rebounds while junior guard Elijah Kahlig had seven points and tied his career-high with four steals. Sophomore forward Katwan Singleton played well off the bench with seven points and four rebounds while red-shirt freshman forward Aaron Overhiser made all three of his shot attempts and finished the game with six points in eight minutes of action.

The Cardinals, who shot 46 percent (29-of-63) from the floor, were led by C.J. Turnage's 23 points and 11 rebounds.

The Oilers will now have a day to prepare for Wayne State University, who comes to town for a 3 p.m. contest on Saturday.
