Oilers Win 70-64 Against Warriors

The University of Findlay men's basketball team earned a 70-64 win over Wayne State University on Jan. 7 in Croy Gymnasium. The victory gives the Oilers a 12-3 record on the season with a 6-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers jumped out to a 21-9 lead in the first six minutes of the game before Wayne State battled back to take a 34-33 lead at the break. The Oilers then fought off the Warriors in the second half for their seventh straight win.

Findlay shot 42.6 percent (26-of-61) from the floor and held a 41-36 advantage on the boards. They also made nine blocks in the game and held a 14-6 advantage in second chance points.

Senior forward Tyler Stern-Tucker led the team with 15 points and nine rebounds while senior guard Ricardo Smith had 13 points, five rebounds and a career-high four blocks.

Junior forward Taren Sullivan filled the stat sheet with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists, a career-high five blocks and chipped in two steals as well.

Junior guard Martyce Kimbrough also reached double figures with ten points while junior guard Elijah Kahlig contributed nine points and a career-high six rebounds.

Sophomore forward Katwan Singleton provided huge minutes off the bench and finished the win with seven points, five rebounds and four assists.

The Warriors, who shot 41 percent (25-of-61) from the floor, were led by Michael Lewis' game-high 19 points.

The Oilers will now prepare to battle Hillsdale College next Thursday at 8 p.m. in Hillsdale, Mich.
