Oilers Head to Hillsdale on Thursday

The Oilers will hit the road for one game this week as they battle Hillsdale College on Jan. 12. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. in Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.

Series Information

The Oilers currently own a commanding 49-8 advantage in the all-time series against the Chargers dating back to the 1959-60 campaign when Findlay won 90-59.

The Oilers came away with an 80-69 win over the Chargers last year in Croy Gymnasium behind 18 points and 12 rebounds from Dylan Kaufman. He grabbed eight offensive rebounds in the game and also chipped in three assists.

Martyce Kimbrough had 17 points, John Staley contributed 12 points and Taren Sullivan finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in the victory.

The Oilers shot 47.1 percent (32-of-68) from the field and held the Chargers to a 41.7 percent (25-of-60) shooting clip in the game. The Oilers also dominated the glass as they held a 47-29 advantage on the boards. 15 of their 47 rebounds were on the offensive glass.

Findlay

The Oilers are 12-3 on the season with a 6-2 record in conference play. They have been led by senior guard Martyce Kimbrough, who is averaging 18.8 points per contest. Kimbrough is making 3.6 three pointers per game, the best mark in the GLIAC. His 54 made triples is also leading the GLIAC. His three point field goals made per game also ranks 18th nationally while his 54 made three pointers on the season is the 11th-best mark in all of NCAA Division II men's basketball.

Junior forward Taren Sullivan has been stuffing the stat sheet this season for the Oilers and sports averages of 16.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks per contest. He nearly recorded a triple-double with 10 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds in the Oilers 88-78 win over 6th-ranked Saginaw Valley State on Jan. 5.

Hillsdale

The Chargers are 6-8 on the season with a 2-6 record in conference play. They have a 2-3 record at home this season and are coming off of a 78-65 loss against Lake Superior State.

The Chargers feature a balanced offensive attack and are led by Stedman Lowry, who is averaging 15.9 points per game. He is also making 3.0 three pointers per contest and chipping in 5.2 rebounds per game.

Ryan Badowski (12.9), Harrison Niego (11.0), Nate Neveau (10.4) and Rhett Smith (10.0) are also averaging in double figures on the season.

The Chargers are scoring 71.7 points per game and making 8.2 triples per contest this year.

GLIAC Player of the Week

Junior forward Taren Sullivan was named the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week on Jan. 9.

Sullivan led the Oilers to three home wins during the week of Jan. 2-7 by averaging 12.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.3 steals per game. Sullivan began the week with 17 points and eight rebounds in the Oilers 120-67 win over Carlow on Jan. 2. He then missed a triple-double by only one rebounds in Findlay's 88-78 victory over 6th-ranked Saginaw Valley State on Jan. 5. In the win over the Cardinals, Sullivan produced ten points, a career-high ten assists and nine rebounds. Sullivan then closed the week with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and a career-high five blocks in Findlay's 70-64 win over Wayne State on Jan. 7.

Passing the Pill

The Oilers are averaging 18.7 assists per game this season, the best mark in the GLIAC and the 11th-best average in the nation. Earlier this season they set a new school record with 33 assists in their 120-67 win over Carlow on Jan. 2. The 33 assists eclipsed the old record of 30, which was set against Notre Dame (Ohio) on Dec. 3, 2011.

Individually, junior guard Austin Garnder was leading the team with an average of 6.3 assists per game before suffering an injury. Junior forward Taren Sullivan has picked up the slack and is contributing 4.6 assists per contest, the second-best total in the GLIAC. 

Automatic from the Line

Junior guard Martyce Kimbrough is making 95.1 percent of his free throw attempts this season, the best mark in the GLIAC. His free throw percentage is also the fourth-best mark in NCAA Division II men's basketball.
