Oilers to Host Panthers/Storm this Week

The Oilers will be at home for a pair of games this week against Ohio Dominican and Lake Erie. They will face Ohio Dominican on Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. before welcoming Lake Erie to town on Jan. 21 for a 3:00 p.m. contest.

Series Information

The Oilers have posted a 29-7 advantage in the all-time series against Ohio Dominican dating back to the 1969-70 campaign when they were victorious by a score of 87-69.

The Oilers won both contests against the Panthers last season. They defeated Ohio Dominican by a score of 80-76 in Croy Gymnasium and claimed a 95-67 victory on the road.

In the home win, John Staley paced the Oilers with 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals while Taren Sullivan had 15 points to go along with four boards and two assists.

In the road win, the Oilers took a 39-36 lead at the break and then dominated the second half as they out-scored the Panthers by a 56-31 margin.

Taren Sullivan led the team with 26 points in only 22 minutes of action. He hit 9-of-14 attempts from the floor and also added six rebounds, two assists and a block.

The Oilers hold a 19-2 advantage in the all-time series against Lake Erie dating back to the 1988-89 campaign when Findlay was victorious by a score of 84-51.

The Oilers split their regular season series with the Storm last year as each team won on their home floor. Findlay claimed a 78-69 victory over Lake Erie in Croy and then fell 81-67 in overtime on the road.

In the home win, Taren Sullivan led the Oilers with 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting. He made 8-of-9 attempts from the charity stripe and also chipped in four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

In the overtime loss on the road, the Oilers held a 65-60 lead with under 30 seconds to play in regulation, but couldn't hold on down the stretch.

John Staley led the team with a double-double, scoring 13 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Martyce Kimbrough, Taren Sullivan and Dylan Kaufman each scored 11 points apiece

Findlay

The Oilers are 12-4 on the season with a 6-3 record in conference play. They have been led by junior guard Martyce Kimbrough, who is averaging 18.3 points per contest. Kimbrough is making 3.6 three pointers per game, the best mark in the GLIAC. Kimbrough is making 3.6 three pointers per game, the best mark in the GLIAC. His 58 made triples is also leading the GLIAC. His three point field goals made per game also ranks 14th nationally while his 58 made three pointers on the season is the eighth-best mark in all of NCAA Division II.

Junior forward Taren Sullivan has been stuffing the stat sheet this season for the Oilers and sports averages of 16.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks per contest. He nearly recorded a triple-double with 10 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds in the Oilers 88-78 win over 6th-ranked Saginaw Valley State on Jan. 5.

Ohio Dominican

The Panthers are 10-6 on the season with a 5-5 record in conference play. They are coming off of an 87-85 win over Tiffin on Jan. 14.

Ronnie Williams has led Ohio Dominican and is averaging 12.9 points per game. Hasan Varence is scoring 12.4 points and grabbing 7.9 rebounds per contest while Sam Hickey is chipping in 11.4 points per outing.

The Panthers are shooting 47 percent from the floor and connecting on 38.8 percent of their three point attempts. They are also dishing out 16.1 assists per game and holding their opponents to a 42.1 percent shooting clip from the field.

Lake Erie

The Storm are 3-15 on the season with a 2-8 record in GLIAC play. They are coming off of an 84-81 loss at Walsh on Jan. 14.

Sean Howard leads the team and sports averages of 15.4 points, 2.5 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game.

Gabe Kynard is also scoring in double figures as he is contributing 10.2 points per outing while Nick Wells is chipping in 9.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.

Lake Erie is scoring 71.6 points per game and giving up 81.9 points per outing to their opponents. They are also allowing their opponents to shoot 50.6 percent from the floor.

An Elite Program

The Oilers have one of the best winning percentages in NCAA Division II competition since the year 2000, having won 403 games and lost only 102 for an overall winning percentage of .798.  During that timeframe, the Oilers reached the Elite 8 in 2005, appeared in the Sweet 16 in 2008 and won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2009 with a perfect 36-0 record.

A Tough Place to Play

The Oilers are 590-118 (.833) in Croy Gymnasium since they starting playing home games there during the 1969-70 season.  They have gone undefeated at home eight times in a season since they began play in Croy Gymnasium as well. 

In the past ten years the Oilers have posted a staggering 135-8 record at home for an incredible winning percentage of .944.

From 2004-11, the Oilers won 71-straight home games, which at the time was the longest streak in the nation regardless of NCAA division.

Dominating GLIAC Home Games

The Oilers have won 118 out of their last 124 regular season conference games at home.  From 2004-13, the Oilers won 84-straight GLIAC games in Croy Gymnasium.
