Eagles' Hot Shooting Dooms Oilers

The University of Findlay men's basketball team lost 86-65 at Ashland University on Jan. 28 in Kates Gymnasium. The loss gives the Oilers a 15-5 record on the season with a 9-4 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Eagles came out on fire in the first half as they took a 50-31 lead at the break. The Eagles raced out to their lead by connecting on 66.7 percent (20-of-30) of their shot attempts from the field. They also made six three pointers and held a 21-10 advantage on the boards. The Oilers also had trouble stopping penetration in the first half as Ashland racked up 20 points in the paint during the opening period.

The second half wasn't much different as the Eagles continued to watch the ball go through the hole and pick up a game on the Oilers in the GLIAC South Division standings.

The Oilers were only able to connect on 37.3 percent (22-of-59) of their shot attempts while the Eagles ended the game with a 58.9 percent (33-of-56) shooting clip. The Eagles also held a 34-20 advantage in paint points and recorded 17 assists in the game.

Individually, junior forward Taren Sullivan led Findlay with 21 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Martyce Kimbrough also reached double figures with ten points to go along with five boards.

Ben Haraway led the Eagles with 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists while Boo Osborne racked up 20 points on the strength of a 5-of-6 showing from three point range.
