Oilers Go Dancing for 13th Time

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked 18th in the nation, will go dancing for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign as they secured the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional bracket.

The Oilers, who are 23-6 on the season, will head to Louisville, Ky. for the first three rounds of the tournament and face No. 3 Southern Indiana on March 11. The Oilers have met up with Southern Indiana three times before and have a 1-2 record against the Screaming Eagles.

The winner of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament will then advance to the Elite 8, which will be held in Sioux Falls, N.D. on March 22-25.

Findlay has qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament 13 times since joining the DII ranks full-time during the 2000-01 campaign. They reached the Elite Eight in 2005 and followed with a Sweet 16 appearance in 2008. In 2009, the Oilers ran the table, finishing with a 36-0 record en route to a NCAA Division II National Championship. Their 36 wins during an undefeated, national championship season, is a NCAA Division II men's basketball record.

This season the Oilers have been led by a pair of juniors in Martyce Kimbrough and Taren Sullivan, who were each named first team all-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Kimbrough is averaging 19.8 points per game and has made a school record 108 three pointers this year. Sullivan meanwhile sports averages of 17.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
