#20 Oilers Win 69-65 Against #5 St. Thomas Aquinas

The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked 20th in the nation, earned their second straight win over a top-10 opponent with a 69-65 victory over 5th-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas College on Nov. 4 at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic in Evansville, Ind.

The Oilers held a 21-point lead midway through the second half before St. Thomas Aquinas came storming back to cut into the deficit, eventually cutting the lead to three with just over a minute to go. The Oilers held on in the final minute then to complete the prestigious event with a perfect 2-0 record.

Findlay ended up shooting 42.6 percent (23-of-54) from the floor and made 9-of-24 (37.5%) attempts from behind the three point line. They also came away with eight steals and forced 16 turnovers.

Senior guard Martyce Kimbrough led the team with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting. He also connected on 5-of-10 attempts from three point range and chipped in a rebound during the game.

Senior forward Taren Sullivan also reached double figures with 16 points and added seven rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore forward Aaron Overhiser came off the bench to produce eight points and five rebounds while freshman guard Tommy Schmock had seven points, four assists, two steals and two rebounds off the pine as well.

Justin Reyes led St. Thomas with a game-high 38 points on 15-of-20 shooting.

The Oilers will now have a long break before they welcome Fairmont State University, who was the national runner-up last year, to town for their regular season home opener on Nov. 15. The game is scheduled to start at 7pm in Croy Gymnasium.
