#20 Oilers Hold Off Fairmont | Win 84-82

The University of Findlay men's basketball team held on for an 84-82 win over Fairmont State University on Nov. 15 in Croy Gymnasium. The win pushes the No. 20 Oilers record to 3-0 on the season.

The Oilers led the majority of the game, but found themselves down one at 82-81 with 24 seconds remaining. Senior forward Taren Sullivan then scored in the paint to put the Oilers up by one at 83-82 with 18 ticks to play. After a timeout by the Fighting Falcons, Vonte Montgomery broke loose underneath the hoop for a layup but was unable to convert the shot with only two seconds remaining. Sullivan then split a pair from the charity stripe for the final margin on the game.

The Oilers shot 48.6 percent (36-of-74) from the floor and forced 16 turnovers in the win. Fairmont State meanwhile converted 53.3 percent (32-of-60) of their field goal attempts and made 14-of-29 (48.3%) tries from behind the three point line.

Sullivan paced the Oilers with 27 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. He made 13-of-21 attempts from the floor and also added a block in 32 minutes of action.

Senior guard Elijah Kahlig had 14 points and five rebounds while senior guard Martyce Kimbrough and sophomore forward Aaron Overhiser each contributed 11 points apiece in the victory.

Freshman guard Tommy Schmock provided a spark off the bench with eight points and four rebounds while junior guard Trey Smith had four steals.

Jason Jolly led the Fighting Falcons with 24 points and six assists.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Nov. 17-18 when they take part in the Don Callan Classic in Cedarville, Ohio. The Oilers will play Lake Superior State University at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 before battling the University of Miami-Hamilton on Nov. 18 at 3:00 p.m.
