Oilers Grind Out a Victory in the Music City

The University of Findlay men's basketball team grinded out a 61-56 win over Trevecca Nazarene University on Dec. 2 in Nashville, Tenn.

The Oilers began the game by going 1-for-15 from the field as the Trojans built an 18-5 lead in the first 13 minutes of the game. The Oilers then battled back to cut the Trojans lead to one at 31-30 when the first half buzzer sounded. They then grinded away in the second half of the contest to run their record to 7-2 on the season with a 2-0 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The Oilers only shot 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the floor and made a mere 3-of-18 (16.7%) attempts from three point range. The Trojans meanwhile hit 12-of-24 (50%) attempts from behind the three point line and out-rebounded Findlay 41-34 during the game.

Senior forward Taren Sullivan paced the Oilers with 19 points and six rebounds while senior guard Martyce Kimbrough had 15 points on the strength of an 8-of-9 showing from the charity stripe.

The Trojans were led by Devin Whitfield's 14 points and Mehdi El Mardi's 16 rebounds.

The Oilers will be back at home on Dec. 7 to host Walsh University at 6pm in Croy Gymnasium.
