Hunt Ties for 10th at Ohio Amateur

Current Oilers golfer Marcus Hunt, a second team all-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) pick, finished tied for 10th at the Ohio Amateur Golf Championship last Friday at Brookside Golf & Country Club, Dublin, Ohio.  Hunt shot a two-over par score of 290 (75, 71, 73, 71) to earn the top-10 finish.

His consistent play of 11 birdies, 49 pars, 11 bogies and only 1 double bogey earned him his finish in the field of 144 of the top amateur golfers in Ohio. This was his third trip to the Ohio Amateur after missing the cut in 2010 and 2011.  Hunt earned a spot in the field by finishing in a tie for 15th with a 76 at the qualifier, which was held at the Findlay Country Club.

Former Oiler Golfers Logan Cooke and Kyle Brossia also qualified at the Findlay Country Club and participated in the 2012 Ohio Amateur.  Cooke shot a 152 (76, 76), missing the two-day cut, and Brossia fired a 228 (71, 78, 79), missing the 3-day cut.

Current UF golfers Jake North (78) and Kirby Doidge (79) missed the cut at Findlay while incoming freshman Dustin Leiber from Norwalk, Ohio also missed the cut shooting after carding a 78.

A number of former Oilers have played in the Ohio Amateur over the years. Most recently, Joe McGeean finished in a tie for 13th in 2010 at Kirtland Country Club shooting a 290 (72, 71, 74, 73) and was also 24th in 2009 at the Moraine Country Club with a score of 300 (71, 77, 77, 75).

Michael Schmitmeyer also qualified in 2010 and tied for 22nd at Kirtland with a 294 (71, 72, 76, 75).  Kyle Weisenburger also participated in 2002, tying for 30th with a 294 (76, 72, 73, 73) in the Ohio Amateur at the Sylvania Country Club.

Approximately 470 players tee it up each year for a one-round qualifier at five golf courses around Ohio for a chance to play in the 144 player field in the Ohio Amateur.
