Hunt Wins Malone Spring Invitational
Marcus Hunt won the Malone Spring Invitational for the Oilers men's golf team on Saturday, March 30 at the Tannenhauf Golf Course by placing first out of the field of 62 competitors. Hunt finished in a three-way tie for first place after 36 holes and then claimed the individual title in a playoff as the Oilers took sixth with a two-round score of 626 (312, 314).
Hunt opened the tournament with a 75 on Friday and then fired a 1-under par score of 71 on Saturday to finish with a two-over par score of 146. His 146 tied Bethel's Drew Day and Walsh's Jeff Cockerham after 36-holes and he ended up besting Day in the second playoff hole to secure the individual title.
The individual win for Hunt is the first during his career with the Oilers.
Adam Johnson also added a top-10 finish by tying for sixth with a 150 (75, 75) while Dustin Lieber (84, 75 – 159) and Chien-Han Sung (79, 80 – 159) tied for 29th place at the event.
Jack Kastor (74, 86 – 160), Kirby Doidge (79, 82 – 161), Stephen Sinchok (79, 82 – 161), Jake North (83, 82 – 165) and Ty Tweed (80, 91 – 171) also competed for Findlay at the tournament.
The Oilers will hit the links again on April 6-7 at the second NCAA Regional of the season. The event is scheduled to be held at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Ky.
