Nashport, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's golf team participated in the first round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Golf Championship on Friday, April 21. The event took place at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, which played 7,243 yards for the men. After one day, the Oilers are in a tie for sixth after carding a 311 (+23), 16 shots behind the leader, Ferris State, who shot a 295 (+7).

Leading the way for the Orange and Black was freshman Luke Kelly. He posted a 76 (+4) in his first ever GLIAC Championship round and is tied for 15th. Kelly was +4 through his first four holes, but rallied to shoot even-par in his remaining 14 holes that included four bogeys, four birdies, and eight pars. The Oilers freshman saw most of his success on par 4's where he was tied for sixth in the field with a scoring average of 4.10.

Playing in the fifth position was another freshman, Cameron Bruce. Despite not recording a birdie in his first round, Bruce ended the day with a 77 (+5) on the strength of 13 pars, the most in the field. The Pickerington, Ohio native shot a 40 on the front, but came back with a 37 on the back and is currently in a tie for 23rd.

Junior Cam Wardley finished his first round with a 78 (+6) and is tied for 29th. Cam, who picked up a couple of birdies in his round, had a pair of double-bogeys on the front and shot a 41, but rallied to shoot a 37 on the back nine.

Another junior, Justin Roth, is currently tied for 38th overall after shooting an 80 (+8) on his first day of competition. Roth was +1 through seven holes, but a triple-bogey on the eighth and birdie on the ninth led to a 39 on the front.

The final player in was sophomore Dylan DeWitt who is in a tie for 55th after shooting an 83 (+11). DeWitt had one birdie and eight pars in his round, but a seven on the par 3, 12th hole would be costly. The 12th hole played as the third most difficult hole today with a scoring average of 3.74. 41 of the 65 competing players carded a bogey or worse.

The second round will take place tomorrow, April 22 with the men teeing off at 8:00 am.
