Nashport, OH – The University of Findlay men's golf team had a strong finish to their 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship. Starting the day in ninth place, the Oilers shot up the leaderboard and finished in fifth overall, their highest team finish since a runner-up finish in 2011-12. The team combined to shoot a 922 in the tournament after posting a 303 in the final round, their best round of the weekend.

The charge was led by junior Justin Roth who shot an even-par 72 in his third and final round. After a double-bogey on the first hole, Roth picked up a birdie on the sixth hole and the most difficult hole of the weekend, the ninth hole. He also birded the tenth before a bogey on 16 set him back to even. Roth made 13 pars in the round and finished in first in the field with a stroke average of 2.92 on par 3s. The Brunswick, Ohio native finished in a tie for 15th after a three-round score of 227.

Findlay's top finisher was freshman Cameron Bruce who, after a 77 in the first round, came back with a pair of 74s. His score of 225 placed him in a tie for ninth overall. In his final round, Bruce made a pair of birdies and had 12 pars. Bruce finished the event with 37 pars made, more than any other player in the field.

Another freshman, Luke Kelly, finished his first GLIAC tournament in a tie for 29th overall. He shot an 81 on the final day to finish with a score of 233 while junior Cam Wardley was in a tie for 45th with a 240. Wardley shot a 76 in his final round, a round that included three birdies.

The final score that came in was sophomore Dylan DeWitt who posted an 84 in the last round after 83s on each of the first two days. DeWitt ended with a 250 for the tournament and ended in 59th.

The Oilers will find out later this week if they earned a spot in the NCAA DII Super Regional. That event will be played in Axtell, Nebraska from Monday, May 8 through Wednesday, May 10.
