Oilers Start Season With A Victory at ODU

The University of Findlay men's golf team began their season with a bang as they won the Ohio Dominican Kickoff Classic on Sep. 5 at the Jefferson Country Club in Blacklick, Ohio. The Oilers shot a 14-over par score of 590 (292, 298) at the event to win by four strokes over Indianapolis. The tournament victory was the first for the men's golf program since winning the Ashland Invitational with a score of 598 (300, 298) on April 22, 2012.

As a team, the Oilers led the field with 112 pars during their 36 holes. They also recorded 22 birdies and led the tournament with two eagles, both coming from sophomore Cameron Bruce.

Senior Justin Roth led the Oilers and tied for second with a 1-under par score of 143 during his 36 holes. Roth began with a 2-under par score of 70 in the opening round and then came back with a 1-over par score of 73 during his final 18 holes.

Sophomore Luke Kelly also secured a top-10 finish as he took ninth with a 3-over par score of 147. Kelly shot a 2-under par score of 70 in the opening round and then followed with a 5-over par 77 in the second.

Bruce tied for 12th with a 5-over par score of 149 while senior Cam Wardley and junior Dylan DeWitt tied for 17th as they each posted a 7-over par score of 151. Wardley shot a 76 in the first round before coming back with a 75 in the second while DeWitt posted a 75 in round one and a 76 in round two.

Sophomore Grant Ricketts tied for 40th with a 157 (77, 80), senior Ryan Wilburn tied for 46th (83, 75) and senior Nicholas Graf tied for 61st with a 162 (80, 82).

The Oilers will hit the links again on Sep. 9-10 at the Al Watrous Memorial in Saginaw, Mich.
