Oilers Capture Great Midwest Championship

The University of Findlay men's golf team captured the 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship with a seven-stroke victory at the Four Bridges Country Club on April 24 in Liberty Twp., Ohio. The Oilers posted a 296 during the final round to secure the title and finished the tournament with a 54-hole score of 889 (290, 305, 294).

Senior Dylan DeWitt led the Oilers at the tournament and tied for second with a 221. DeWitt posted a 73 in each of the first two rounds and then came back with a 75 during the final 18 holes of competition. His runner-up finish netted him a spot on the all-conference team. He also led the entire field with 12 birdies during the competition.

Senior Justin Roth finished fourth with a 223 while senior Cam Wardley tied for fifth with a 224. Both earned spots on the all-conference team with because of their performance at the event.

Roth opened the tournament with a 1-under par score of 71 before posting a 78 in round two. He then closed the tournament with a 74. Wardley, who ranked second in the event with 11 birdies, fired a 73 in the first round before carding a 79 in round two. He then posted an even-par round of 72 during the final 18 holes of competition.

Sophomore Cameron Bruce posted a 226 and took ninth while sophomore Luke Kelly tied for 17th and fired a 229.

Bruce opened the event with a 73 and then had an 80 in the second round. He finished the tournament with a 73. Kelly fired a 74 in the first round, a 75 in the second and then had an 80 in round three.

The Oilers, who captured their first conference title since winning the 2007 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) championship, led the field with 44 birdies and finished 10-under par on par-5 holes. They also became the first team other than Trevecca Nazarene University to capture the G-MAC title.
