Oilers Take 2nd at Kickoff Classic

The University of Findlay men's golf team finished in a tie for second at the Ohio Dominican Kickoff Classic on Sep. 4 at the Jefferson Country Club in Blacklick, Ohio.

The Oilers posted a 36-hole score of 584 (293, 291) at the event to tie Otterbein for second. Indianapolis won the event with a score of 566 (280, 286).

Freshman Caleb Westfall paced the Oilers and tied for fourth at the tournament with a 1-under par score of 143 to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Westfall shot a 73 during the first 18 holes and then came back with a 2-under par score of 70 in the second round for his final total.

Freshman Tanner Grzegorczyk and junior Luke Kelly tied for tenth after they each fired a 146. Grzegorczyk posted a 72 in the first round and a 74 in the second while Kelly carded a 71 in the first before shooting a 75 in round two.

Senior Dylan DeWitt tied for 23rd with a 150 (78, 72) and freshman Hunter Foltz took 32nd with a 153 (77, 76),

The Oilers also sent another squad to the event and the team finished seventh with a 604 (309, 295). They were led by sophomore Parker Haynes who tied for tenth with a 146 (72, 74).

Sophomore Brock Kehres finished 26th (79, 72 – 151), junior Drew Prater tied for 27th (78, 74 – 152), junior Peyton Cooper tied for 35th (80, 75 – 155) and senior James Riepenhoff tied for 50th (83, 77 – 160).

The Oilers will be back in action again on Sep. 8 when they host the Ohio Cup at Red Hawk Run Golf Course.
