Oilers Win Tough Battle Against The Cardinals

The University of Findlay men's soccer team defeated Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Saginaw Valley State University 2-1 on Friday, October 25 at DeHaven Field.

The Oilers jumped out to a 1-0 lead when junior Cullen Baron scored unassisted at the 47 minute mark.

The Oilers extended their lead when sophomore Mark Sleasman scored at the 70 minute mark. His goal was assisted by sophomore Ryan Poyle.

The Cardinals got on the board when Mitch Reinhart scored off of an assist by Sadik Balarabe at the 76 minute mark.

Findlay goalkeeper Joe McClanahan picked up the win in the net and had nine saves in the process.

Although the Cardinals had the edge offensively with a 17-9 advantage in the shot department, the Oilers prevailed for the victory.

The Oilers, who improve to 5-8-1 on the year and 3-8 in GLIAC play, will face GLIAC foe Northwood Michigan University on Sunday, October 27 at DeHaven Field at 12 p.m.
