The University of Findlay men's soccer team won 2-1 over Malone University on Oct. 4 at DeHaven Field. The win gives the Oilers a 5-4 record on the season with a 4-3 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
Findlay offense dominated the Malone Pioneers outshooting them 19:8 in the game. Malone took advantage of their opportunities first however, scoring indirectly from a free kick outside the box in the second half. The Oilers were unable to capitalize until the 72nd-minute of the game when sophomore Ryan Husband scored a header off a free kick from freshman teammate Michael Shaikly.
There were 3 cautions given in the second half as the teams battled for a win. With both teams being unable to break the tie, the game carried into overtime. Findlay sophomore goalkeeper Ben Richter kept the Oilers in the game when he saved a Malone penalty kick in overtime. Findlay defeated Malone in the 99th-minute of play when senior captain Mark Sleasman scored for the Oilers.
The Oilers play their next match on Oct. 9 on the road at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio at 7:30pm.
