Oilers Suffer 3-2 Loss Against #18 Saginaw Valley

The University of Findlay men's soccer team lost 3-2 to 18th-ranked Saginaw Valley State University Sunday, Oct. 25 at DeHaven Field. The loss brings the men's record to 9-6-1 on the season with a 7-5-1 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers took the lead against the nationally ranked Cardinals scoring in the 16th-minute of game play.  Senior Mark Sleasman assisted senior teammate Veselin Panchev in scoring a one touch volley on the top of the box. Panchev now has three goals on the season. The Cardinals countered Findlay's 1-0 lead when they scored at the end of the first half.

Findlay took the lead again in the second half when sophomore forward Ryan Husband finished a deflection off Saginaw's goal keeper. Sleasman earned his second assist of the game from the goal, and his third assist of the season.

Saginaw had a rapid rebuttal with two goals back to back in the 78th and 79th-minute of play taking the final game score to 3-2.     

The men play their next and final game of the season on Friday, Oct. 30 against Tiffin University at DeHaven Field at 12pm. GLIAC tournament play will begin on Nov. 6.
