Oilers Shutout Tigers in Season Opener

Findlay, OH- The University of Findlay of men's soccer team defeated Salem International University 2-0 on Friday, September 2 at DeHaven Field.  The win gives the Oilers a 1-0 record to start the season, while Salem International goes 0-1. 

Within the first two minutes, Findlay sophomore Michael Shaikly slotted the ball in the corner of the net with the assist from junior Alex Glibert to give the Oilers the first goal of the season.

With five minutes left to go in the first half, sophomore Josh Burton put the ball in the back of the net off of a free kick by sophomore Michael Shaikly to put the Oilers up 2-0.

In the first half, the Oilers dominated the game with five shots on goal, while Salem Int'l had three shots on goal. 

Junior goalkeeper Ben Richter shut out Salem International with two saves.  On the other side of the ball, the Oilers picked up their two goals off of eight shots. 

The Oilers ended the game with 14 fouls resulting in two yellow cards.  Salem International ended the game with 11 fouls also resulting in two yellow cards. 

The Oilers will be back in action in Findlay, OH at DeHaven Field against Concord at 12:00pm.
