2017 Soccer Wall of Fame Class Announced

The University of Findlay will hold their annual Oiler Soccer Wall of Fame ceremony on Oct. 7 at DeHaven Field. The ceremony will take place between the men and women's games against Malone.

The Oiler Soccer Wall of Fame was created to honor the university's greatest soccer players. Each year the selection committee decides which player or players will be permanently honored with a plaque on the Oiler Soccer Wall of Fame. This year, former greats Chelsea Combs, Luis Cortell, Megan (Morris) Evans and Nick Ferris will be recognized.

Combs played for the Oilers women's soccer team from 1994-97 and graduated from the University of Findlay in 1998 with a degree in environmental safety and occupational health. She holds school records for appearances (94) and helped lead the Oilers to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Tournament in each of her seasons with the squad. She was named first team all-Great Lakes Region in 1994 and 1995 and was selected as an honorable mention all-American in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997. She also earned second team all-American honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) in 1995 and was a first team all-Great Lakes Region by the association in 1997, along with earning second team all-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors.

Combs appears on the Wall of Fame twice as she was enshrined along with the 1996 team in 2013.

Cortell played for the Oilers men's soccer team from 2000-03 and graduated in 2004 with a degree in international business, business administration and sport management. He appeared in 64 games, scoring 44 goals to go along with 12 assists. He holds the record for most goals scored in a season with 16 in both the 2001 and 2003 campaigns and is second on Findlay's all-time point list with 103. Cortell was a third team all-American pick in 2003 by the NSCAA and also earned first team all-region honors that year. A first team all-GLIAC pick in 2001 and 2003, Cortell captained the Oilers 2003 team that reached the NCAA Division II Final Four.

Evans played for the Oilers women's soccer team from 1992-95 and graduated in 1996 with a degree in art and a minor in mathematics. She holds career records for most shutouts (36) and most shutouts in a season (13), set during the 1992 campaign. Evans compiled a 63-13-3 record in the net and also made 263 saves. A second team all-region pick in 1992 and 1993, Evans also earned NAIA Scholar Athlete honors during the 1994 and 1995 seasons.

Ferris played for the men's soccer team from 1996-99 and graduated in 2000 with a degree in business management and business systems analysis. Ferris was voted second team all-GLIAC in 1998 and 1999 and finished his career with eight goals and nine assists.
