Big First Half Gives Oilers The Victory

Findlay, OH - The University of Findlay men's soccer team remained undefeated on Thursday, September 14 by defeating the Lake Erie College Storm in a 6-2 final. The Great Midewest Conference win boosts the Oilers to a 4-0 record and 3-0 in G-MAC play. 

All of Findlay's scoring came in the first half of the contest. The match got off to a quick start when sophomore Josh Burton scored just 19 seconds after kick-off with an assist by senior Peyton Schroeder. The lead was pushed to 2-0 in the 2nd minute of the game when Schroeder added a goal of his own. Lake Erie was able to cut the lead to 2-1 in the 12th minute but that would not last long.

Freshman Josh Hales scored in the 17th minute on a goal assisted by senior Bailey Crawford and Burton added his second goal of the match in the 23rd minute on another assist by Schroeder. Hales would score again in the 42nd minute on a penalty kick.

Freshman Alex Kerstetter delivered the final goal of the half and of the game for the Oilers in the 42nd minute. The goal gave the Oilers a 6-1 lead going into halftime, and they would hold their lead in the second half to give them the 6-2 decision.

Findlay was able to fire off 29 shots during the match, with 16 of those being shots on goal while limiting the Storm to just four shots total. 

The Oilers will be back on the pitch this upcoming Tuesday, September 19 when they travel to Kentucky Wesleyan to face the Panthers in a G-MAC contest. The match is set to begin at 8:00 PM.
