Kerstetter Leads Scoring Frenzy Against Walsh

Box Score

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay men's soccer team defeated the Walsh University Cavaliers in a conference match on October 5 in a 7-2 final. The victory pushes Findlay's record to 8-2 overall and 7-2 in Great Midwest play while the Cavaliers fall to 5-5-1 overall and 4-4 in league play.

The Oilers took the lead in the 12th minute first half when a shot from the corner was deflected by the Walsh goalkeeper, only to be knocked in by junior defender Connor Lynch. This was Lynch's first goal of the season.

The Cavaliers would go on to tie the match in the 43rd minute, leaving the score at 1-1 heading into the half.

Findlay came out big in the second half, scoring six goals on only eight shot attempts. Walsh added a goal of their own early, but could not hold off the relentless Oiler offense.

Freshman Alex Kerstetter led the scoring frenzy with three goals and two assists, which ties the school record and is tied for second in Great Midwest history for most points by an individual in a match. The record at Findlay hasn't been touched since 1998 when Zach Grieshop contributed eight points in a match against California (Pa.).

Adding to the scoring for the Oilers was sophomore Josh Dickinson with two goals and freshman Jacob Montag with one. Dickinson also chipped in two assists, Montag had one, and senior Yardley Gonzalez added another.

Findlay will be back on DeHaven Field at 3:00 PM this Saturday, October 7 when they host the Malone University Pioneers.
