Oilers Tie on Senior Day

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay men's soccer had their last home contest and Senior Day on Saturday, October 20 at 1:00 PM against the Lake Erie Storm. The Oilers faced the Storm on September 8 and came out with a win, but this time it ended in a double overtime draw. The final score was 1-1. Findlay is now 5-10-1 overall with a conference record of 5-7-1. The Storm are now 7-5-4 on the season and 5-5-3 in conference play.

The Oilers started the game off with a quick shot by senior Josh Burton which was saved by the Storm goalie. The Storm then had four consecutive corner kick opportunities, but the Oilers defense was able to hold them off from getting a shot.

20 minutes into the first half the Storm struck with a goal to take the lead. Shortly after in the 29th minute, Josh Burton took a powerful shot that hit the crossbar, but no goal was scored. The half ended in favor of Lake Erie with a score of 1-0.

Both teams were aggressive coming into the second half with multiple fouls and a few yellow cards on each end. Sophomore Jack Atkinson took a long shot that slammed off the crossbar in the 71st minute that helped Findlay get some momentum back in the game.

In the 80th minute, a Storm foul led to junior Josh Dickinson taking a kick that went straight to the back of the Storm net. The Oilers tied the game with just 10 minutes remaining and it was enough to send the game into overtime.

The Oilers had two shots in the first overtime period while the Storm had none with no goals scored to send the game into a second overtime period. The second overtime was also a stalemate with no goals being scored and the game ending in a draw.

Senior Nathan Sier was in net for the Oilers and had three saves on the day.

Senior Josh Burton fired six shots while freshman Taylor Miles took three.

The Oilers will be playing at Tiffin on Tuesday, October 23 at 3:00 PM.
